Reading the leaving cert thread on boards. The mocks were leaked online this year prior to the exam. So it can't even be considered in forming an opinion on what students should get as marks.

When I was in school mocks were different in nearly every school, a load of private companies used to sell different mocks to all the schools.

Both work for me most of the time. I've spent ages trying to sort it out, but I think a recent server upgrade of software fecked up a few things, but not in a consistent manner something things work for some people all the time, for others none of the time, and for others some of the time.

I think part of the problem is that the version of vbulletin that we use stopped being supported by the needed extra software stuff years ago and it needs to be upgraded. If that happens though loads will complain about things looking and feeling different to what they do now. There is a financial cost too, but that can probably be covered, it is the time cost in installing and then customising where possible that would be the main problem given my current situation at home.

I meant to reply to this post at the time and completely forgot about it. Can you please start some kind of thing where we can contribute to the running costs of the site. It seems like you put a fair amount of your own spare time into the site and it isn't fair that you guys are also covering any financial cost. I am sure that loads of people who use the site would be willing to contribute. We were all complicit in the walkout. Thanks for the effort by the way.

Strolled around to Host earlier as they are doing 'Host at Home' where you can pick up some of their best sellers that just need to be reheated / finished off at home.

Beat : Spent an hour in the queue to get in.

Brag: I now have chicken liver pate, beef shin ragu, fresh pasta, steak, salsa verde, duck fat roast spuds, salad and two desserts (cheesecake with cherry & chocolate pot with crumb) to devour for dinner.

Variance : I got a bit excited after eventually getting in and picked up a few other non essentials bits and dropped 95 quid in total. Apparently, I'm not allowed go buy food on my own anymore...

They only open 12 - 6, Tuesday to Saturday.

Food is not hot but most of it is pre-prepared.

For the beef shin ragu, I had to cook the fresh pasta (3 minutes) and reheat the ragu for about 10 minutes in a pot.

For the steak, it's already seared so just had to stick it in the oven for about 20 minutes for medium @ 180, same with spuds.

Salad was just adding in the provided dressing and mixing

Desserts were good to eat as is.

Pretty minimal work to be honest.

Sound off some of the strikes are eye watering. Great card so far. Can't believe they went ahead with it. Apparently, they have to put on x amount of fights per year in order to get $700m from Fox and given what current ownership paid, that is an essential target to meet.

On a separate note, I'm mainly a lurker here but follow this thread and back in the old place religiously. Would be more than happy to make a contribution to running of the site if something can be set up.

Thanks for the offers all.

Financially the ads just about typically cover the running costs, give or take. Ideally for these upgrades I'd like to have a clear 12 hours, just in case, especially since our posts table is quite large and has tendency to crash or make operations time out during upgrades. Getting that time is far from straightforward though these days, but with support from DP hopefully it'll be fine.

If/when I'm upgrading (with the hope it'll make everything magically better) I'll let people know in advance.

The whole LC thing is shaping up to be the shit show of all shit shows. Where do grind schools fit into the plan? What about those doing self schooling or extra subjects outside of school? 2020 students who do exams will be competing for college places with 2021 students thus driving up points for the 2021 students? Still doubts about teacher engaging.

The LC is social distanced anyway to avoid copying. Can't understand how doing everything possible to get it done as 'normal' could be worse than the plan put forward.

Something went wrong though somewhere along the line. I took the dough out today after about 20 hours in the fridge and it wasn't as risen as his. They were quite thin going in and not as springy as they should have been. Spent a good 12 mins kneading them yesterday and got that window pane effect so I don't know. Nice crust, and it was ok for dipping in oil but nowhere near where it should be.

Quite dense..



Pity though, as the barbecue chicken they were to go with was deadly..

A Bittersweet Life is an incredible Korean gangster movie.

Recently watched The Outsider on Netflix with Jared Leto. Decent Japanese Yakuza movie set just after world war II.

The original Oldboy is great if you haven't seen it especially if you haven't seen the Hollywood remake.

Emailed him some congratulations earlier and to say that he had a positive impact on my life back then in a rather bleak, mid-80s Ulster and got a loverly response from him a short time later fondly remembering that period in his life and thanking me.

I feel quite inspired by it all TBH. The dude didn't start as a journalist proper until he was well into his 40s and now, in his mid-60s when most people are angling to hang up their britches, achieved this remarkable feat.

I was only about 3/4 episodes in when I made my last post about the show. I have to say by the time I finished it I had similar thoughts. The real magic in my eyes is that while people will identify with parts of the story it also acts as this nostalgic wish-fulfilling because of the capacity for forgiveness on show and never locking each other out. It pulls at the what if in your head but the reality is that these kinds of connections at that age are messy, intense, emotional rollercoasters that when they come off the tracks usually end in a blaze of flames that leaves scorched earth between those involved.
