Any of our IT crowd hazard a culprit / remedy for a Window 7 running machine recently having Explorer shut down everytime I attempt to copy a file from a USB stick or SD card onto the desktop?

Ran System File Checker and Check Disk and no use. Deleted a couple of shellex menus. Drivers for USB and SD up to date. Doesn't appear to be a system restore point to before it started happening.

This is as it should be. The salary, plus pension contribution, plus insurance costs plus contributions to state benefits along with bonuses etc are the cost of employing someone. This cuts both ways for the employer and the employee imo. Employees certainly shouldn't just compare salaries and employers shouldn't be looking to clawback pension contributions imo.

Agreed. That's why I like the Australian system. It's just an accepted cost. It was relatively small when it was introduced (at 3%), and the increases have been slow and steady so nobody really notices. Plan is for it to increase from 2020 to 12%.

If you associated the addition of -suicide at the end to make it "less evil" that's on you tbh. Personally, I considering to be simply be letting us know that he murderer was from the household. I don't consider him in any sort of different light had it just been a murder of a unrelated family in similar circumstances.

It's circumstances that largely dictate how I look at it. A mentally ill person having a psychotic break and killing everyone is awful, obviously. But I wouldn't equate it with a premeditated murder (or series of murders) by a psychopath/sociopath.

I'd consider somebody who has a break and kills his family, no different to somebody who had a break and kills the neighbors family, whether or not he kills himself in either case.
I'd really agree with the idea that the papers reporting the suicide changes how we are supposed to feel about it, or how people actually feel about. I imagine the average person's initial reaction is one of disgust not sympathy.

She's classified as a single parent...but has a partner she's been with for a number of years but can't move in with him either obviously

She was offered two homes on the same basis you and I would have to look at in a private rental scheme, one of which was in Clontarf which is out of the reach of most....that didn't suit her either.

Obvious differences surely? One concerns people trying to hang on to as much of their own money as possible. Other concerns people trying to get their hands on as much of other peoples money as possible.

Only real sympathy I feel is for the stuck middle classes who must cover the cost not contributed by those richer, pay for their own lives without subvention, and cover the cost of those less rich who live on said subventions.

It's not 'tax avoidance', it's careful financial planning, actively encouraged by the State, so that you don't become a burden on others i.e. taxpayers. Also, no-one on here is 'rich', more like the squeezed middle.

I think you're reaching for something that just isn't there to be honest.

Pensions aren't "gaming the system" they are a necessary construct in order to reduce the burden on the state when people are no longer able to work. Not only is everyone encouraged to have a pension, but the state is doing it's utmost to making them mandatory for everyone while also delaying the payment of state pensions to people and ultimately (my best guess anyway) reducing the amount that someone can get.

If we had spent days and pages exploring how we can avoid having to work while having someone (someone to be determined) fund our lifestyles without us having to contribute anything ourselves then you might have a point.

The woman in question is undoubtedly trying to game the system, that's not propaganda or some kind of rich v poor point scoring it's just a fact. She's not the first and she won't be the last but it doesn't mean we should approve of it.

Open the Start Menu, type eventvwr.msc, and press Enter

Might give you a better idea where the fault is

I'm not really convinced that Johnny Speight wasn't a complete racist himself, after all his other series included the quickly cancelled Curry&Chips with a blacked-up Spike Milligan as PakiPaddy.

But even if we take him at his word that TDUDP was anti-racist and satirical in its intent, it can't have escaped his attention that it clearly wasn't working and that Garnett was becoming an absolute hero to racists and his 'bloody coons innit' lines of dialogue were becoming catchphrases. Its still the "go to" tool for me. I always keep an ISO or USB somewhere accessible and it continues to bail me out.

Regarding Hotspur's problem. I'd try creating another user profile and see if the issue persists. Failing that test the HDD just in case and back up followed by nuke/reinstall. Might be a good time to invest in an SSD if you have to reinstall.
