Just following from Ole, rather than any existential dread, is the standard will for families these days that your half of the house goes to the wife while she is still alive and then goes to the kids? My vague understanding is that if you die intestate then 25% of your property goes to each kid (or something like that) so the house might be sold out from under the wife.

Wife gets 25 and kids 75, even if only the one child. Edit...as gene wilder would say..stop that and reverse! Dom seems to make more sense.

Whole family gets wiped out... I had to ask....it drips up to parents if stil alive, then siblings.

Also found out, lets say you are due to inherit half of your surviving parents estate, you die and no change to will, your kids get your bit, they dont have to be specifically named...in that instance anyway.

If you die without leaving a will, then your estate will be distributed in accordance with the law of succession.

This also happens:

• When the will is not valid because it was not made properly
• When a legal challenge to the validity of the will has been successful

The law of succession also applies to assets which are not covered by a will such as where there is no residuary clause

The order in which your estate is distributed in these cases is set out in the Succession Act 1965.

If you are survived by:

• A spouse or civil partner but no children (or grandchildren): your spouse or civil partner gets the entire estate.
• A spouse or civil partner and children: your spouse/civil partner gets two-thirds of your estate and the remaining one-third is divided equally among your children. If one of your children has died, that share goes to his/her children.
• Children, but no spouse or civil partner: your estate is divided equally among your children (or their children).
• Parents, but no spouse, civil partner or children: your estate is divided equally between your parents or given entirely to one parent if only one is living.

If there is no will entire estate is divided 2/3 to partner ( usual rules of > 5 years sharing bills and whatever apply ) 1/3 divided equally amongst all kids.

I'd guess the viewership for a semi-final wouldn't be particularly high in Italy. They qualify automatically so casual Eurovision fans are probably unaware of the concept of the semi-finals.
So the amount of votes needed to get 39% of all votes cast is probably a small enough figure. It'll be much more difficult to create the same effect on the public vote tomorrow.

Was trying to explain the eurovision to the eldest kid yesterday and showed her the irish song - and she was blown away by it and demanded to see some more songs - then showed her a few of the more typical songs from this year and she resumed her usual mocking stance. it really is a fantastic piece of work, almost artwork. what really stands out is the extent to which they've* tweaked the song and turned it into something that it wasn't originally, it was quite a poorly written and arranged song originally.

I did also take the opportunity to explain its not she, but they, and said - but you've probably heard all about that type of thing in school anyway - but nope. The french have no truck with pronoun fluidity, despite back in the origin days having decided that every inanimate object in the world should have a gender. maybe they're worried that if they open the floodgates then tables will be able to start demanding to be referred to by its preferred pronouns.

As a final note on that, 'they' is a brutal pronoun. It just seems to make no sense. That it seems plural and yet its a single person.

Whenever I hear stuff like that, reminds me of two separate call from my time working at Paddy Power.

The first was coming in to work to hear a colleague very patiently trying to explain how it's not that unusual to lose X number of coinflips in a row. Was dragging out and the poker manager at the time decided to take it upon themselves to grab the phone and flip a coin repeatedly, roaring Heads!, Heads! etc.


The other was probably more brutal. There was a casino customer who has a foolproof roulette technique of betting pretty much all the numbers except 2 or 3. Colleague saying "well probability is that you will play enough to lose a coupe in a row". This did not go down well at all....

So, IPB Eurovision 2024 Do-Badly Sweep - Lets Rise like a Phoenix with the mudafucka beat.
26 countries participating, going to strike out the top 2 in the betting - Croatia and Israel.
(That works out well for peace in the thread, ignoring such a divisive country. Bloody war-mongering Croats).

Sadly seems to be some doubt about the participation of Netherlands. If they are excluded then anyone who gets them in the draw can replace them with Israel or Croatia, their choice).
