Pearse Doherty congratulates Syriza on stunning election victory

I want to congratulate Mr Tsipras and his party on this stunning victory which will bring real change for the people of Greece and brings an opportunity for progressive change in Europe.

Syriza has promised to renegotiate Greece’s debt if it wins the election and to call for a European Debt Conference which would be in Ireland’s interests also.

(It looks to have been in fairness!)

If Enda Kenny and his government are not going to stand up for Irish citizens then they should remove themselves from office and allow the people to elect a new government that will.

I doubt it. A few years ago I went to the States twice within a month of having been in Iran and having a half dozen Iranian visas stamped they never passed any remark. - you have capitulated. Resign.

Let's not get carried away. They both have the same goal: debt forgiveness as an alternative to austerity or default. Any government placed into power in either country will be in exactly the same set of handcuffs and will have very few options. That's why SF support Syriza - so they can set a precedent and negotiate forgiveness for Ireland too.

I will of course bow to your superior knowledge, but I think the bolded bit has yet to be fully understood. They have only been in arrears for one day. The Greek people have had a taste of what conditions shortly after the new Drachma will look like and I'm certain they don't like it. It's certainly clear there won't be any forgiveness until they are really, really unable to pay, by which time they may as well go for the new Drachma anyway. Nevertheless, this is what they voted for.

As for SF, I don't think they understood what debt forgiveness entails - perhaps they thought Bob Geldof would hold a concert and everyone would agree it was for the best? Everyone is certainly better informed at this point, which is a good place to start.

They're in a defaulter's club with Sudan, Somalia and Zimbabwe.
They stand utterly isolated diplomatically within Europe.
Their government doesn't know what it's doing from hour to hour.
Investor confidence in Greece is gone, never to return.
Their banks are closed, some potentially permanently.

In his speech, Tsipras promised that "deposits will not be lost, pensions will not be lost", and appealed to the people to "open a bright new page of democracy, and certain hope for a better deal". He said he takes full responsibility of a solution.

Tempted to get a pair of those half-trousers shorts. You know the kind? Not sure if they have a name. Can't seem to pull off regular shorts due to my legs being too sickly white and stick thin, but once the shorts go as far as the knees then its grand as the bit of the leg below the knees is rather fine for a casual observer to look at, and possibly even slightly titilating for the more impressionable of the fairer sex.

they're called bermudas and the plain (blue or beige) ones are totally accepted in France. Get yourself a pair or 2 of espadrille (10 euro at your local market), and people will be talking to you in French as if you were a native. Doing up a competency application form for a job. I want to say I worked for xx number of years in IT and moved to Admin seamlessly. I'd like to add about IT being 'polarised' in their area of work and now I have to look at organisational issues/objectives/etc. Any help on how to phrase this would be hugely appreciated.
