The minimum wage for everyone (I believe) has gone up to $14 this year and will go up to $15 next year. They have the US tipping culture with European average wage, it's a very good earner if you're in an even slightly busy bar/restaurant.

Does this happen in anyone else's work because it seems cracked to me. My office is small (20 people), the bosses are laid back and the dress code is relaxed but if you have a meeting step it up. There are two guys who walk around the place in their socks, if they come over to talk to you, in their socks, go into the bosses office, socks! One of them has his own pair of slippers to avoid the stuffiness of a pair of shoes when he goes to the washroom. How dirty those fleece looking slippers are is for your imagination.

I'm all for people understanding how much data they are sharing, with whom, for what purposes and most importantly how they can control it.
I'm sure the day will come when the deal with Google will stop working in favour of the consumer but for the moment I'm still waiting to see the catch where the only cost appears to be seeing targeted ads, which are mainly a good thing, in return for a host of free products and services:
Maps with realtime accurate traffic and routing info and livesharing if I want it
email - I can search in gmail and find stuff from 10 years ago quicker than I can find something from last week in outlook!
Chrome and Chromecast
Photos, sharing and searching
Drive
Sites
Better than MS office docs and sheets
etc.
And at every step I can configure privacy and security settings with a fine granularity through a very easy to use interface.
If anyone can explain, using only facts and reality what the catch is I'm wide open to hearing them ?This may or may not be an original thought of my own.

The missus manages a bar here and its nuts how much she makes. She paid her deposit for her house purely from tips. Its actually prohibitive as if we were to move away she'd likely earn 50% less anywhere else.
The tipping issue is screwed up here, there aren't any easy solutions.
That said... after being in Aus last week, and being home for Xmas and dealing with standing at a bar and trying to catch an overwhelmed bar mans eye I'd happily pay 15% of my $80 bill to have drinks brought to me and an attentive server (which for the most part they are here). I've spent $12 on a lot worse. I view it as a service not as an extra charge which is how most people mentally model it.
If I walked into a bar and was asked do I want a server for 15% of my bill or not. I'd take the server. This may or may not be an original thought of my own.

I'll be back in Ireland next month and you'll be right, sat in a bar I'll gladly pay extra for someone to come over when I have a third of my drink left and ask if I want another.

Lots of bars are just increasing the house tip out by a % or 2. Means that less of that 15% you pay is going to the actual server and more to the employer or back of house.
Its a pretty sketchy system but as much as I rally against the idea... everyone comes out pretty well from it.
Bars over here are on a much, much tighter margin than bars at home though not that thats any consolation to a consumer. This may or may not be an original thought of my own.

I actually cannot wait for all this shite to be over.
Sick to death of it at this stage.
The referendum is not the end of it though, we've (I've) all this catholic bollixology to be subjected to at the end of the summer when those cunts from Rome show up.
Ugh, bring on xmas.I hold silver in tit for tat, and I love you for that

Intuitively I find it hard to believe that irrespective of Russia's own position on abortion why they would bother interfering in a referendum of trivial consequence to them in a nation that has a negligible amount of global influence.
Perhaps I'm wrong and it's a more complex move than simply asserting their influence on one referendum but it just seems unlikely.

Why did the Irish government not expel Israeli staff after mossad muttered using stolen Irish passports? Also the Dublin Monaghan bombings and other acts of British collusion and murder but we still wag the tail for London and Brussels. The us and I’ll have caused the deaths and displacement of millions yet Russia is the bad guy with there needless costly wars.

Its kind of like Horse breeding in Kildare, wine production in France or faith and begorrah gobshitery in Kerry, its just what they do because they are the best in the world at it.

Plus the great big elephant in the room of why they would be involved in literally anything in Ireland, especially a referendum of zero international relevance.
It seems strange to waste resources on a trivial referendum when I'm sure the resources could be far better spent in some other area which may yield some potential benefit to them.
I have no doubts that the Russians enjoy the anarchy of influencing whatever they wish but it seems unlikely to waste time with Ireland when they have the capacity to influence the US presidential election and Brexit

Do you doubt that the kremlin are working to to sow discord and political instability across Europe?
Sure we are right to doubt and to look for evidence that they are active in any specific campaign regardless of how hard it will be to find but the idea that those kind of operations would be bounded by strict moral principals is ridiculous.Turning millions into thousands

IMO things have moved to the extent that we need some sort of consensus or social norm that unless there is explicit consent, ongoing and mutual then the absence of a 'Yes, please' is a 'No!'
Given their behaviour on the night and in the subsequent days I have very little sympathy for the consequences these lads will face but in general I think it is very unhealthy that anyone found innocent in a case like this is named and shamed.Turning millions into thousands

Not impressed with the hot takes (senator O'Rioirdan in particular) on twitter. They all believe her and consider the jury who sat through 8 weeks of excruciating detail to be unanimously wrong.
