I'd say out of habit I use incognito for about 20/30% of my searches, for one off stuff or things that don't add anything to have attached to my account.

US aren't good tippers, they've just chosen a weird deal where the advertised price of a meal doesn't include a major portion of the cost.
I'm not sure what the average tip in Ireland would be and where is seen as a place to tip but here in Canada, tipping is in nearly every food/pub industry and the average is 15-20%. There was a subway (the shit fast food place) close to my work that used to have a tip prompted when you used your card, fuck off!

The minimum wage for everyone (I believe) has gone up to $14 this year and will go up to $15 next year. They have the US tipping culture with European average wage, it's a very good earner if you're in an even slightly busy bar/restaurant.

Tis only money tip the good folk if it's part of the culture. Too many tight arses worry about the odd Euro met a few tight feckers in my time. Terrible trait.

For whatever reason I've drawn the line at fastfood.

Does this happen in anyone else's work because it seems cracked to me. My office is small (20 people), the bosses are laid back and the dress code is relaxed but if you have a meeting step it up. There are two guys who walk around the place in their socks, if they come over to talk to you, in their socks, go into the bosses office, socks! One of them has his own pair of slippers to avoid the stuffiness of a pair of shoes when he goes to the washroom. How dirty those fleece looking slippers are is for your imagination.

I'm all for people understanding how much data they are sharing, with whom, for what purposes and most importantly how they can control it.

I'm sure the day will come when the deal with Google will stop working in favour of the consumer but for the moment I'm still waiting to see the catch where the only cost appears to be seeing targeted ads, which are mainly a good thing, in return for a host of free products and services:
Maps with realtime accurate traffic and routing info and livesharing if I want it
email - I can search in gmail and find stuff from 10 years ago quicker than I can find something from last week in outlook!
                          Chrome and Chromecast
                          Photos, sharing and searching
                          Drive
                          Sites
Better than MS office docs and sheets
                          etc.

And at every step I can configure privacy and security settings with a fine granularity through a very easy to use interface.

If anyone can explain, using only facts and reality what the catch is I'm wide open to hearing them ?
LOL. No. Fair enough about everything else...

The tipping issue is screwed up here, there aren't any easy solutions.

That said... after being in Aus last week, and being home for Xmas and dealing with standing at a bar and trying to catch an overwhelmed bar mans eye I'd happily pay 15% of my $80 bill to have drinks brought to me and an attentive server (which for the most part they are here). I've spent $12 on a lot worse. I view it as a service not as an extra charge which is how most people mentally model it.

If I walked into a bar and was asked do I want a server for 15% of my bill or not. I'd take the server.

I'm not sure how it'll play out over the next couple of years, they introduced the new higher wages so quickly it'll surely affect bars/restaurants that where already on a thin margin.

I'll be back in Ireland next month and you'll be right, sat in a bar I'll gladly pay extra for someone to come over when I have a third of my drink left and ask if I want another.

Not going to the right pubs IMO. Pains me to feel obliged into tipping some guy a dollar to pick up a glass and pour you a pint.

I hate the expression “server” in that context for some reason.

It'll be paid for by either servers or customers.

Lots of bars are just increasing the house tip out by a % or 2. Means that less of that 15% you pay is going to the actual server and more to the employer or back of house.

Its a pretty sketchy system but as much as I rally against the idea... everyone comes out pretty well from it.

Bars over here are on a much, much tighter margin than bars at home though not that thats any consolation to a consumer.

Plus the great big elephant in the room of why they would be involved in literally anything in Ireland, especially a referendum of zero international relevance.
That's my thoughts too. Gay marriage is a far more likely issue for the Russians than Abortion.

It seems strange to waste resources on a trivial referendum when I'm sure the resources could be far better spent in some other area which may yield some potential benefit to them.

I have no doubts that the Russians enjoy the anarchy of influencing whatever they wish but it seems unlikely to waste time with Ireland when they have the capacity to influence the US presidential election and Brexit

IMO things have moved to the extent that we need some sort of consensus or social norm that unless there is explicit consent, ongoing and mutual then the absence of a 'Yes, please' is a 'No!'

They all believe her and consider the jury who sat through 8 weeks of excruciating detail to be unanimously wrong.
