I was in the now closed Ladbrokes beside the Poitín Still one evening. 16 runner hcap and it came up on the screen they were paying an extra place (5 places).
Even the lad that comes on between races was going on about the great value to be had. A horse was withdrawn at the start so naturally I presumed the extra place would now be on the 4th horse and as it turned out horse I backed was 4th.
Went to collect and bet had been settled as a loser. Helpful girl who seemed to have some knowledge of racing rang the area manager who informed her that my bet was a loser, they were paying out on the fifth horse but not the 4th.
Girl in the shop knew area manager was wrong but didn't seem eager to challenge her. Took me a full 45 minutes to eventually get through to someone who understood that I had to be paid out.
The Ladbrokes staff in Monasterevin will regularly inform you that they will take your bet but won't be able to pay you out until the next day as they have had bad results earlier. Usually after the Fahey boys have had a winner.Comment

Don't think I've seen many recommendations for Stranger Things here? Shocked by that as it is fantastic. Had to triple check that Speilberg wasn't associated with as there are so many nods to his movies.

If anyone enjoyed 'Straight Outta Compton' HBO have a new four part documentary called the 'The Defiant Ones' charting that era focusing mainly on the stories of Dr Dre and Jimmy Irvine which is a good watch. Had slight reservations about the latest Fargo, but the last couple of episodes were outstanding, particularly the last one. The soundtrack is fantastic.
