Can someone check my work that this is about 4X the cost of a Vanguard index (and probably only the start of a panoply of charges)?
Can I not just get a PRSA which buys a super cheap index fund? Is that what I need to ask for?

A guy was referred to me last week and wanted me to review his pensions. He almost choked on the phone line when I told him that I'd be charging him for the review as some of the products he's currently in may be good value and I wouldn't be "selling" him a financial product just for the sake of it. I think he was expecting me to be delighted to get the opportunity to review his finances on the hope of flogging him something. Meh I didn't care because unless he understands the distinction I don't want him as a client but he's representative of 90%* of the market IMO.

Dark chocolate is 35% minimum. 70-90% is common in some brands. But something like Bournville will be close to the minimum.
Milk chocolate is 25% min*. Not sure why you think that would be rank. Dairy milk is 25%.
*in the US it can legally be as low as 10%.
White chocolate has a 0% minimum because it's made from cocoa butter not cocoa solids.

I forgot about the white being butter and not solid.
When we were studying we had to remember 35% milk, 70% dark for exams. American chocolate is awful stuff, tried it many times and I don't like it. No wonder if they can have very little actual cocoa in it!

I don't watch any soaps or game shows. I do watch series like Blacklist, Mr Robot etc and sometimes we have them downloaded or just watch from shush onto the TV.

A cheap lesson in fairness about who not to deal with in future...
The number of people who just rock in to a bank/tied agent/fellah from the pub/golf course and think they are getting great advice for nothing is unreal.
Anyway stick the money in that cheap equity fund you have access to and get the pot size up beyond 5k sharpish! GL
PS There is little or no commison on a 5k prsa, in particular with no future contributions expected as the compliance cost on the product is higher than a BOB. However a 5k BOB will pay commison as the compliance cost is lower and the expected duration of you remaining in the product is longer. That's why a BOB was "offered" to you.
I currently charge 2k for a full financial review as a loss leader (to get corporate business introductions) and 3k if I charge correctly. Individual business is only a sideline for me. Good advice isn't cheap so only the wealthy generally get it or have sufficient assets to benefit from it.Last edited by V for Vendetta; 02-11-16, 14:23.‘IF YOU had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you.” Genghis Khan

The pros for the FBI for a trump led government are kinda frightening
less a Hillary is a danger to the US and more with Trump in power they can get away with anything.

Therefore we need to be on our guard in almost everything we do, be that buying a financial product, software, health etc. We are living in an effectively lawless state and the worse bit is the pretense that we have good regulation in place....
I told a Central Bank official in 2008 that the credit unions in this country were a mess and that they'd need to investigate every single one. She told me I was crazy. Now the tax payer is bankrolling all the credit unions and still guys are arranging "raffles" to look after their friends and the CBI is still "investigating".Last edited by V for Vendetta; 02-11-16, 16:03.‘IF YOU had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you.” Genghis Khan
