Not sure if he is off. Those freeze frames when they try and show the exact moment of the pass with the line are often not right. When it is that close advantage is suppose to go to the attacker so even if he is off by inches (not sure he is even is in this case) I am fine with that getting called the other way in real time.

Know there's a few folks who've done diving on here - how long would it take to go from absolute beginner learning in a pool to being out in the sea?

Disagree with shrap here. One session in the pool is not enough imo. When u done mine we had two full days class room and practical in the pool. The pool was deep and was nice to get used to equipment. Some in the group still struggled because the open ocean with currents is different especially in a big group. It's a wonderful feeling on a live aboard mind cost 300 pounds 10 dives 2 night 3 days live aboard unlimited food and two days of class in the pool. That was 2000 but was proper value.
