Listening to Morning Ireland and they do a piece about how it is this time two years since the Garda was shot dead in Lordship north of Dundalk after a Credit Union robbery. Then I remembered that in 2 weeks time it will be the two year anniversary of the very very long odds on favorites, Crossmaglen Rangers, suffering a crushing defeat in the AIB Club Semi Finals at the hands of St Brigids. At the time Crossmaglen were the powerhouse of club football and had won the previous two All Irelands. Stragely (or not perhaps) they havent been mapped on a football field ever since! My how they have deteriorated in the intervening time period.

Edit - the guard didn't play football for them btw or wasn't from that parish.

Its quite subtle but when you listen to this report on RTE this morning it all makes sense.

It has been widely reported that the Guards believe they know who all of the gang are, three of whom bolted to the states the week after the murder.

The RTE report mentions the omerta employed by the IRA in South Armagh and how they haven't gone away, you know. And there are a couple of other non sequitur mentions of Crossmaglen.

Its all part of a process of winding up the pressure on the SinnFein / IRA / GAA nexus.

I'm atheist, and I'm happy to tell others that. If I have kids I won't be bringing them up religiously. But I'd also get them baptised, and play the Catholic card with the school, (and the granny ) because socially and politically it's a benefit.

Sisters kid was recently baptized as they will be moving back to ireland at some point (school picked out already and all).

They asked me to be the godfather, I pointed out it should be someone religious

By definition republic are secular, so the main/larger state schools should not be allowed choose students based on religion (specialist needs of minor religions may muddy that a bit but shouldn't)

As I won't be voting SF in the next election I've no idea if the party line has changed, and they are very much leaning towards the latter of your suggestions.

That said, it's very possible to be in favour of a socialist policy of charging for water and think that the governemtns current implementation has been an absolute disaster.

I was watching Gordon Ramsey's Hotel Hell the other night, as you do. The place had three owners - none of whom took responsibility. The place was a joke and they got drunk in the bar at night giving away free shots and ripping their shirts off.
Gordon rightly pointed out that one of them needed to step up, that they needed one voice they could all be owners but they had to put their trust in one of them to lead.

Thus ends my parable.

This place needs a general manager - one who doesn't make silly bans or overturns them.

Failing that, an auditor or regulator. Wolf Pack Inc and myself are willing to take one either or both of those roles respectively.

Was having lunch with my dad and my brother and the topic of the referendum came up. My Dad (mid sixties) goes sure it will be a landslide yes vote. I told him about the bet and the previous history of referendum and that it would be a strong yes in Dublin more than likely but tight overall. He then goes on to tell me how 2 of his sisters will definitely vote no. Both very well educated and I asked him why and he said because God says its wrong. I think the bet is very safe.

Not asking people about their sex life, but just discussing it in general terms. One of the bullet points (excuse the pun) on a slide was saying something along the lines that women's nipples should be aroused properly, not like you are tuning an old radio. Other 'how to sexually excite your partner stuff.

Apart from the mandatory religious 15 mins it was non preachy, so not as bad as I expected all told.

Well in Buddhism everything has to be checked out with your own experience. The Buddha said not to believe anything just because he said it, or some other teacher said it. Check it out, or try it out for yourself. Since Buddhism does not concern itself with a creator God there's no authority to dictate to you how things really are or should be. It is a practical thing. Also as the Dalai Lama said:

If science proves some belief of Buddhism wrong, then Buddhism will have to change.
