You have someone who is into comic books and you need a recommendation for a film? How about any Hollywood blockbuster for the last fucking 5 years?

Old people and authoritarian conservatives are the wrong horses to be backing for change. We have to breed them out. The Catholic Church has done a sterling job in the secularisation of Ireland. If it weren't for all those poor priests being seduced by wicked kids we would be drawing dead on a referendum such as this.

And the Internet of course. Where even straight people have eyed a bit of the aul gay porn. And by gay porn I, of course mean, gay male porn. I mean if the referendum were "Should attractive, married, thonged lesbians be allowed to playfully explore each other's young, nubile bodies in the streets as a form of busking" I would tentatively set the line at 98% yes.

Should try to get all back for our 5th anniversary spectacular.
Angry Ball went Canadian on us didn't he? Dannydiamond has been excommunicated. CHD will be back I presume.

Someone should ask Zuroph to pop his head in so we can give our congrats on his getting engaged, big difference from last time he was a regular.

Ace pops in now and then doesn't he?

Rasta is surely a good bet to get back, has only been gone 6 months. Anyone have contact with him through other social media?

      How about Icarus? Micknail?

I'm sure there's recent ones of note I'm missing. We lost Dazzler who was a good friend (along with Rasta we lost 2 Neville avatars at the same time), so I'll invite him back.

I'd say the majority of em still lurk. The views to post ratio is crazy disproportionate for it to be just the current regs viewing.

Anyone tried Sous Vide cooking? I'm currently cooking a rack of lamb, not sure if it will make any difference but will report back.

Haha true enough, I should be in my element. But being the suave nerd that I am, I wish to think of something different (also the latest avengers movies are akin to waterboarding to me) to come across well. My obvious ploy at first was something like Dredd, which has turned out to be a bad ploy, a bad ploy indeed. Dammit, I love that film.

Fuck it, avengers and django unchained.

The Grand Budapest Hotel is a fantastic film btw, if you haven't see it.

So she likes V for Vendetta and Watchmen (the only comic book I have ever read), so she is into masks and social minded justice. This makes Battle Royale a dubious choice.

For no reason I can articulate, unrelated to the above, just came to be as a hunch, you should watch Neil Jordan's2012 female vampire film Byzantium.

Nice choice, tyvm. I hate picking films. Sometimes I spend more time on it than the film.

I am starting this, seems to be very productive.

Ralph Fiennes is excellent. I actually can't think of a film where he wasn't but he is particularly good in this.
This may or may not be an original thought of my own.
All efforts were made to make this thought original but with the abundance of thoughts in the world the originality of this thought cannot be guaranteed.

I'm not even totally convinced it will pass if I'm honest. If it does I reckon we are looking at a 52-48 split in favour and that's with a low turnout.

Also the Government have done the referendum no favours by scheduling it when students are living outside their electoral areas and preparing for exams. Lower turnout from 18-25's is a serious demographic problem for this one.

Anyone thinking this is a sure thing needs their head checked.
57-58 I was thinking - without actually thinking too much about it. Might take the under 60 at 5/4. The No at 11/2 looks a bit tempting tbh after reading your post

I just don't think you can ever go wrong in believing in the deep deep conservatism at the heart of this country.

Genuinely difficult to call this one before the debate takes a form but I think polls won't be reflective of the reality of feeling at all. People who are gonna vote no to this aren't answering Yes in an IPSOS/MRBI polling sample.

It is loud alright but brill that you can just put chips in and forget about them , no filthy oil either. Mighty

I lost my mother to cancer on the 6th of November with there being only just over 3 months between diagnosis and death. I still can't believe it being honest. She was an amazing woman. She was a single parent and I am an only child so we were very close. I didn't appreciate the quality of life she provided for me for a long time growing up but she worked damn hard to make sure I always had the Nike trainers or could go on a holiday in the summer. Today would have been her 57th birthday. It just doesn't feel fair. I used to always complain about having to buy a birthday present for her so close after Christmas but right now I would give anything to give her one last birthday present and celebrate it with her. Christmas was really hard this year and I don't think it will ever be the same again really. I am lucky that I have great family around me still and we are quite close. I just cant believe that I will never see her again.

The day my mother died, I wrote in my journal, "A serious misfortune of my life has arrived." I suffered for more than one year after the passing away of my mother. But one night, in the highlands of Vietnam, I was sleeping in the hut in my hermitage. I dreamed of my mother.

I saw myself sitting with her, and we were having a wonderful talk. She looked young and beautiful, her hair flowing down. It was so pleasant to sit there and talk to her as if she had never died. When I woke up it was about two in the morning, and I felt very strongly that I had never lost my mother.

The impression that my mother was still with me was very clear. I understood then that the idea of having lost my mother was just an idea. It was obvious in that moment that my mother is always alive in me.

I opened the door and went outside. The entire hillside was bathed in moonlight. It was a hill covered with tea plants, and my hut was set behind the temple halfway up. Walking slowly in the moonlight through the rows of tea plants, I noticed my mother was still with me.

She was the moonlight caressing me as she had done so often, very tenderly, very sweet... wonderful! Each time my feet touched the earth I knew my mother was there with me. I knew this body was not mine alone but a living continuation of my mother and father and my grandparents and great-grandparents. Of all my ancestors. These feet that I saw as "my" feet were actually "our" feet. Together my mother and I were leaving footprints in the damp soil.

From that moment on the idea that I had lost my mother no longer existed. All I had to do was look at the palm of my hand, feel the breeze on my face or the earth under my feet to remember that my mother is always with me, available at any time.

                                                                                                              Comment

I'm guilty of not appreciating what I have when it comes to family. When I see friends & relatives parents taken by cancer over the past few years, it really puts things into perspective that we should look after those who are closest to us and not bicker or stress over the menial things in life. Look after yourself.

The fear is so strong given I am so far away. I echo JBravados post, I feel the same way. It's no longer scoldings and "cop the fuck ons" in my house, it's "when are you coming home again" and "great to talk to you".
