Ile de ré would probably suit, but is incredibly busy. If you like cycling though, it's a lovely spot. If you go a tiny bit south towards St palais, it's a beautiful region and not too busy with kms of unspoilt coast with no resorts, so very much self catering. Also home to pineau des charentes. Yum !
