Like the gladiator feel to it, 2 consenting adults beating the bejesus out of each other..not a bother.
Royce Gracie was the man. Hated watching him fighting (rolling around and mounting his opponent almost exclusively) but couldn't argue with the results. I think everyone with even a passing interest in MMA will have heard of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and be aware of the family. I think there's clubs in Dublin now. It's all change now in UFC 178!
It was a lot more brutal back then too, with not as many rules in place as there is now.

I've also watched bits of wresting to various degrees over the years.
I think what turned me off UFC in the small sample size I've watched was the fact that they could be on the ground holding and not much else happening for a couple of minutes at a time.
The whole middle of the night element to it wouldn't endear me to herself anyhow, whatever about the edgy violent aspect.

I'd guess the cameras are on the other side so as not to show a 99% empty stand all the time.Turning millions into thousands

Just caught up on McGregor fight and seen comments wondering how dangerous it is and if ppl get killed in it. Gloves made boxing more dangerous.
In 100 years of bare-knuckle fighting in the United States, which terminated around 1897 with a John L Sullivan heavyweight championship fight, there wasn’t a single ring fatality. Today, there are three or four every year in the US, and around 15 per cent of professional fighters suffer some form of permanent brain damage during their career

McGregor hit him with a big shot that rocked him, then caught him behind the ear less than a half minute later. Not the cleanest knockout, but a solid knockout nonetheless.
I'm not going to be so silly as to suggest a fighter has never thrown a fight in the UFC. That would be silly, especially when a fighter could know he is on the way out and any number of Vegas bookies will take bets on the finish.
But Porrier was a top 5 fighter, with 10 UFC fights, 8 wins. The loss yesterday was a decent career set back. It'll will take him a few wind to regain his place. Earnings wise, the loss is a big hit. I really don't think they could make it worth his while.
