I was actually watching a documentary called Requiem for Detroit during the week about the absolute wreck of a city it's become with the loss of the car industry. It has some of the largest abandoned buildings in the world, really strage looking place
At the height of the Celtic Tiger bullshit I'd a mate trying to convince me to buy abandoned local authority houses from the Detroit City Council at $20K a pop and rent them out via a management agency to low income workers.
I remember google imaging the city and realising it was dying.
Anyhoo, first day of the new life tomorrow, new flatmates seem fine, computer nerds, but that's grand by me. Stoke is nowhere near as bad as I thought, but I'll definitely be getting bored here, so am going to have to get my hands on a car by Christmas. Plenty of decent spots to go wandering though once I have one.

Lol @ someone with near 10k posts calling someone a computer geek
Spot on. Thats exactly what I meant by my post. How dare we dream of something.
Like if I say i think Liverpool will win the premiership, will the same posters thank it.
Or if i say Waterford/Kildare are a good bet for the double next year, what do you think will happen. SPORT imo.
Sensationalist imo. I simply said lets not get carried away but you say "uplifting to see people dream". Give me a break with all due respect.

You should see some of those with 30k+ posts on boards.ie and theyre not even a mod of anything. So selfish imo. I get tilted when i see a 30K'er thats not a mod.

When i was first introduced to boards i couldnt figure how someone could possibly have that many posts but i mean now with time i see how.
That reminds me i was just thinking how did i get introduced to the boards poker forum.
I was playing a game in the casino Neil Kelly had just opened. There was a big controversy where there was 2 of the same cards in a deck. I remember our very own TheHurricane slagging Kelly off that he was going to go on boards with the story. I then tried to listen for any info as to what this mystical boards was that put so much fear into Kelly.
I guess i went home and put google to use and the rest as they say is history.

You can be such a nasty prick at times. I was reading what you said about the dole. You make it sound like all people WANT to be on the dole.
I was made redundant while on Maternity leave, pretty unlucky I guess. After my maternity money ran our before the baby was 9 months I had no choice to go on the dole as there was nothing around and I ACTUALLY wanted to enjoy a bit of time at home with the baby as I know she is my last.
I looked about for suitable work and found none this year. I hated going to sign on every month and I hated queuing in the post office each week. I have never been out of work in my life. Only ever had time off on Maternity leave.
You have a very low opinion of people who don't work. I hope your job is always there for you and you don't need to sign on as I doubt you would get one bit of sympathy of some.
To give The Hurricane the benefit of the doubt (should I be even doing this? ), I'm guessing that he didn't really mean to target ALL people drawing the dole as being good-for-nothings who hang around in the bookies all the time, just those who have made surviving on the dole / welfare state benefits a lifestyle choice and have no interest in improving their situation.
Jebus, im only seeing this now.
Your some crowd of fairies, Ionapaul is correct i was only having a pop at CHD, trying to draw him out.
People around here take things way too seriously, also MrsFlushdraw, i accept your forthcoming apology for calling me names
If only i had half the knowledge of poker back then that i do now the money that was around wasnt even funny. Although the waiting for AA strategy was still a solid winner.

Really weird that I first encountered it in similar fashion. They had it up on a big screen in the Jackpot ( some thread about someone getting ripped off ( or being accused of theft) at the cash desk iirc)
I was like OMG people discuss poker on the internet! That can't be fair
I see via Twitter that Smurph is on the final table of the ladies event at the EPT, go go Smurph
From the PS Blog
At the start of level 8, where the average stack is 19,800, and the blinds are 400/800, Carolaing Ramirez is runaway chip leader sitting on a stack of 37,000. Josefine Forssberg, sitting next to her, has 30,000 while on the same table Lynne Beaumont has an above average stack of 23,000. Victoria Coren is doing well with 25,000 and sitting opposite her is Collette Murphy who has just a little bit less.
I would have thought any Ninja Vigilante worthy of the name would only be heading out about now
Pffft, i'm not a ninja, i'm a samurai. Ninjas jump out of bushes and growl at teenagers like sex pests. Samurai just walk into the middle of trouble like badasses.
Is that how you crash a wedding? yes it is, Bionic Barry, yes it is.

Ha that was me! They had it up on the big screen? That's mad Ted!!
as most know I don't get on very well with Neill Kelly. was going to put something in my blog but could just seem like sour grapes, and I'm not 100% I'm being objective ? so going for a BBV rant instead,
FFS someone take that fucking microphone from him in future, it difficult to play poker for 12 hours and the last thing a player wants is constant drivel over a booming PA system. It's not a fucking TD's job to tell us every thing from goal scorers to race results, it's 2011, we have phones that do all that. Also running commentary on chip counts through out the day was something TD's did in the country back in 2005 when no one knew how to TD.
anyone else in Killarney feel the same or is it just me ?

It is an abiding memory of mine from last years event aswell, was ridiculously off putting and pretty sure I mentioned it to whoever was running the side event I was in at the time. It may have been ok if the noise level was low but it seemed to be on full blast from what i recall.
Beautiful ? Its and Ann and Barry story told with flashing lights that panders to the Jason Statham generation who think they like better films.
Opr
I disagree completely. If anything it's heavily influenced by 80's crime thriller movies and old exploitation flicks, but presented at a much slower, almost Taxi Driver-esque pace. It's really not a modern style movie at all, and certainly about as far from a Statham film as you could get. Admittedly it's mainly about it's slick presentation, superb pacing and incredible atmosphere rather than being about a particularly strong narrative, but there's nothing wrong with that and many classic movies would have similar criticisms.
