"I believe the target of anything in life should be to do it so well that it becomes art. You read a book and the writer touches something in you that you would not have brought out of yourself. He makes you discover something interesting in your life. If you are living like an animal, what is the point? What makes the day interesting is that we try to transform it into something that is close to art." - Arsene Wenger
The biggest problem with the US is that its full of americans.
Nah, I've done the states. Been all over and have had my fill.
From what I have heard, Australia is better in pretty much every way than America. Its all a matter of personal opinion but why would you choose America over Australia?
Australians are nice and friendly but its the cultural basement of the planet, they have no class, and while they are up for a good time (like us) I just have a vague sense that the whole country is, well, a bit crass. Mind you I've only ever been in Sydney, but we've all met tonnes of Australians right?
America has crassness is buckets too in many places, but Australia is Torremolinos with kangaroos. Maybe there's a depth to Australia and Australians outside of the landscape and coral reef, but I haven't seen it. No-one moves there to excel, they go to take 2 bit jobs and drink. And fair dinkum to 'em mate.
I think overall Americans are very positive and Australians are negative whining bastards.
And as for their comedians...which brings onto this...
As mentioned it's the late great Bill Hicks, one of my 2 heroes in life (other is Freud). A man of your disgraceful punnery crimes probably wouldn't like him. You might prefer Andrew Dice Clay
I recommend listening to Bill's final work he published Rant in E Minor, its in parts on Youtube:

Ok you got me there, I put up a clip of Steve Hughes in the past couple of days here myself, great comic. Congrats in the IO ticket.
cheers , now here is how not to do comedy. If you watch this clip you will want to punch the comedian also, however I'm not sure if it's worth wasting the minutes of your life, just trust me he got punched and deserved it. (for failing at comedy)
Eddie: I hate Gerry Ryan with a vengeance. I get really annoyed every time I hear him talk. He is the epitome of a crass, vulgar, ignorant (in both senses), uneducated, insulting, humourless, pompous twat. Couldnt think of anyone to fill that description better. Even his stupid voice tilts me. Also, hope your mam is OK.
Solskjaer: V well played. I was at your table for a short while. Played very solidly. That chiplead was one huge retard. He took my chips a few out. I have no idera how he managed to luckbox a ticket. He clearly ran like god from what I saw anyway. Congrats on the score anyways! Well deserved from what I saw.
World in general: Fucking unions. My girlfriend is going on work experience and was thinking about trying Green Isle cos its about 5 mins walk from her house. I just lolled and said "You won't cook me dinner if you're on hunger strike." My irreverent humour was lost on her thou4gh . Fucking unions though. No offenses KevIRL.

Reason: Added a few more adjectives to Gerry Ryan
Ok important question. I want to get a gift for someone, they recently complained that although they love cooking, but they have terribly knives. So clearly the answer to a good set of knives. Unfortunately I know literally nothing about knives. So bbv, recommend me an excellent set!

Don't buy sets. Buy individual knives. I got an excellent 8" chef's knife in homestore recently. It's a Stellar Sabatier made from forged steel. It was relatively cheap too @ €35, expect to pay at least that per knife. Make sure the knife is made from one piece of steel with a handle riveted on, rather than a blade and handle in two parts, if you know what I mean.
Buy a chef's knife, a bread knife, a small vegetable knife and a sharpening steel. Tha't all your friend will need, as the chef's knife is extremely versatile.
A hardwood chopping board made from Beech or Oak is essential too.
Buy a magnetic strip that can be fixed to the wall or kitchen cabinet rather than a knife block, the knives will stay a lot sharper that way.

No offense to me Tommy, I'm not in a union, theres no union here at all. Its just the group of affected staff getting together to fight the good fight.

Mod edit
I also have a Sheffield set that I got about 15 years ago and its still in perfect condition and the knives are still really sharp.

surprised at that Kev, considering how many are employed there. Must be one of the few companies in the city not unionised. Is there a reason.
It's usually a good sign from a companies point of view that they have been looking after their employees well.
Hope all goes well for you all out there.
He takes internet very very seriously. He said he would leave for a few days and didn't so became a laughing stock. People wind him up all the time and he takes it to heart it seems. Treats the place as real life. Has now setup a new account. He has a screw or two loose imo.
I thought that too tbh.
A while back in the Soccer Forum I posted a completely sarcastic remark regarding his post ratio, said he wasn't old enough to celebrate new years with the grown ups either, all 100% tongue in cheek (even added a smiley FFS). Well anyway, a day later he Pm'md me asking for me to delete the post and genuinely thought this was going to happen . Somethings not right about him, he's like the ultimate level.
Just to help bolster the belief that da workers united will never be defeated among the poor oppressed like Raul Duke III and assorted mods, don't forget the important labour dispute tactic of a hunger strike:

If I flip a coin, what are the odds of it landing on either side?
50/50, although the answer you want is approximately 51/49. It depends on what side of the coin is facing upwards when you flip it.
However, the piece of research is flawed in that it assumes the same side is always facing upwards. If we take the rather more likely assumption that the upward facing side of the coin has a 50/50 chance of being either heads or tails (obv) and we exclude someone purposefully choosing to always have one side face up then the odds of it landing on either side revert to 50/50.
Don't always assume QI is right. They tend to present things as facts that really need more information about the theory to be properly understood in context.
You are technically correct...the best kind of correct

All very contentious but the word on the street is that it played out something like this.
Its a non union house and the Beards on €150K+expenses Per Annum have been desperate to get in there since it opened, they have a few plants inside who have been working hard to open up the place for substantial fee harvesting.
Someone got their hands on a management memo that had a load of strategic options including job cuts up for discussion, they picked out the juicy bits and using ninja IT Skills had a copy of the document dropped onto everyones desktop. Management started an investigation into how the IT systems were able to be used in that way. In the course of that investigation they uncovered a whole load of hardcore porn that had been emailed into the company from outside by anon. The three boys who were fired don't seem to argue that they had the porn, their argument has been that it was sent to them from an untraceable source and that other people had had access to it too and that they were being victimised They don't say why they were likely candidates for victimisation but it appears they may have been trying to bring the Union in. Thirty union members came out in support. The plant ran at full capacity without them and the rest of the 650 workers had litle sympathy and no problem passing the pickets which were placed at the entrance to an industrial estate with other businesses inside.
The Labour court said it was unfair to fire these guys and not other people who had access to the nefarious material. Green Isle tried to do a deal to have them fck off into the sunset but there is a bigger game at stake.
Nothing about this experience will make GI more likely to accommodate the unions. If the beards guys get their way and it becomes a Union shop then over the next few years one of the biggest employers in Naas will be degraded and gradually depreciated as new production lines are opened and plants expanded in the UK.

Id assume there would be a lot more than what side is facing up if you decide to get very technical.

In other words Green Isle want to piss all over workers rites and if they cant continue to do so they will move production.
GI brought in staff from England who were bussed in every day and put up in a local hotel. The mooned and jeered the strikers as they entered the plant daily. They left after an altercation at a local niteclub.

yep, that's not good news. guessing maybe we'll have to go with Plan B: public sector workers pay us Hello Money for the right to work in the public sector
All this dumb-ass stuff they are doing, with e.g. not answering phones, is really not going to help them in December.
how about Plan C?

"We are not Europeans. Those people on the continent are freaks."
No more really. I think management are terrified that if these lads come back that it will lead to the place becoming a Union shop. Jacko and the boys are desperate to get 650 * weekly union subs and Green Isle would rather close than have their business run by the unions.
650 jobs in a currently thriving business is a pretty big game.

They fired people they believed they had good cause to fire . Labour court found against them and they negotiated a position that everyone will put up with whether they like it or not.
The rest of the 650 workers passed the pickets every day being called scabs and intimidated by the strikers.
I jeered the strikers when I drove by too.
Edit: I told this one before but the first day I came across the strike I was trying get into the ind estate to go to another place nothing to do with GI and all the lads were in the road and were trying to engage me, I opened down the window knowing nothing except that it was a strike and told them "Fck off you shower of wankers". Oh how I LOL'd when I read up about the strike and found how accurate I was in my assessment of them
