I bet part of the reason you do it as well is that if you don't someone you disagree with and will do a worse job will do it. I know that was part of the reason I was a mod for so long over there and decided to do this as well, and not a small part. The soccer mods over there are good lads though, even if the rules have to be applied for silly things at times, such as saying what everyone is thinking but isn't really allowed to say.

As for the second part, you know as well as I do that if we could relax the rules we would. Every time we try that though the place descends into chaos frighteningly quickly. There are posters that are just waiting for an opportunity to get away with something, I swear some of them must spend all day trawling through every thread looking for an opportunity to get a dig in within the boundaries of the rules. If we took those boundaries away....

hmod means nothing. Almost anyone can be a hmod. It takes much less to get a private forum approved, and the person requesting it can get anyone added as one I think. Far less controls over them than regular mods.

It just galls me to see some posters who just lose the rag a bit occasionally get a 6 month ban (the one thing that could and should be changed imo, 1 month is enough) and the usual suspects get away scott free as technically their post can be construed as just their opinion. I care less about it now than I used to though, and that is a good thing. My one and only ban on boards came in the soccer forum (still infractionless though) from my old pal GY for reacting to a post when I shouldn't have. It's like the days of old in football when professional fouls weren't straight red cards, when something deserves more, but can't be given under the rules of the game.

Actually, is there some way of ignoring a post that contains a quote from someone you have ignored? I have at least 5/6 people who are high volume posters in the rugby forum on ignore, and it frustrates me when I go through a thread and see their nonsense quoted.

Yep, there's nothing more frustrating than nodding along to a post and thinking "you're absolutely right, fair play to you" and then having to give an infraction to someone

The whole 6 months thing is a double edged sword. On the one hand you can say that some people just "lose the rag occasionally" at the same time you have to break the rules 6 times in a single season before you get a month ban, so it's not a once-off thing, but absolutely we've seen solid contributors punished by this ban and the overall forum has suffered as a result.

On the other hand you have some posters who just constantly abuse posters/players/refs/allegiances etc, and you need to have a decent deterrent to prevent them doing so. Although I will grant you that given the increase in the number of long term bans given out, perhaps the deterrent isn't working as well as we would have hoped.

There is a firefox plugin I'm sure someone can point you at that apparantly does this, or maybe it just totally ignores their post and you can't see that they have made a post, but it can still be seen in quotes. I'm not sure. Someone like Lloyd can point you towards it though, as I'm fairly sure he uses it.

The last straw was a comment he made on an article/podcast or something on the guardian by one of the soccer forum posters that was ill judged at best, and it was seen in a dim light. Best not to go into too many details, as we've had this argument here before at the time.

there's some plugin that ignores the quotes as well, I think I've seen Lloyd mention it a few times so maybe he might expand on it here at some stage. Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of putting any of them on ignore!

Drop down to 5 tables and get used to that first, then when you are ready, add in a 6th.

It really makes no sense to plough on through with 6 if your bottom line is taking a hit just because you have decided that you are making the jump from 4 to 6.

Ah, I knew what a HMod was, just assume that they were some what strict on who they allowed to do it.

As said there and beyond what I said in the other thread, definitely try 5 if you're finding it hard. I used 5 for ages and ended up with 6 as my regular amount only when I found 6 very sweet tables one session and then realised I didn't find the extra table to be affecting my game at all so tried it some more, if your game is at all changing then it's not worth the extra hands per house especially at smaller stakes where learning is so much more important then hourly rate.
