When I set up a credit union A/c, about 17 years ago, you had to save regularly for 16 weeks solid before you could get a loan and even then the first loan could only be as much as you had saved in the previous 16 weeks. Dunno if that has changed but would be surprised if the CU were giving out loans on same day as joining
