One of my favourite moments in work was the call I got to rewrite a piece of code to represent a currency value because 'They have run out of zeros in Zimbabwe, again!'
They are at it yet again, but this time it is a little bit more interesting and has some real world relevance as to why cryptos are not a solution to anything to do with money as currency.
A deepening unease is settling over Zimbabwe as the country's fragile local currency loses value at alarming speed.
Roubini is in the Guardian today having a right go at the delusions underlying cryptos.
Yet far from ushering in a utopia, blockchain has given rise to a familiar form of economic hell. A few self-serving white men (there are hardly any women or minorities in the blockchain universe) pretending to be messiahs for the world’s impoverished, marginalised and unbanked masses claim to have created billions of dollars of wealth out of nothing. But one need only consider the massive centralisation of power among cryptocurrency “miners,” exchanges, developers and wealth holders to see that blockchain is not about decentralisation and democracy; it is about greed.Turning millions into thousands

Meanwhile blockchain remains a solution looking for a problem to solve.
Very few actual applications at the moment that are viable for production but loads of money being poured into R&D.
If there any Microsoft devs on here who want to work with blockchain give me a shout - shameless shill.

Struggling to think of any greater example of mass stupidity than Brexit.
It's fucking mad. Particularly the way they cling to the hope that, if they can somehow forge domestic consensus, the EU will just agree to do all the things they have unequivocally said they will never agree to!"We are not Europeans. Those people on the continent are freaks."

Will be a long time before the irish system changes to incorporate it tho your right.

However, I would say that he's not far wrong with some of his other points.
Unfortunately, a mixture of hysteria and simplifying technological systems like mining pools down to "single owner" labels is just misleading and will either convince ignorant parties of it's pointlessness or convince informed parties to ignore the entire article as claptrap.
Blockchain is still mostly still an embryonic stage regarding usefulness and adaptation. You just have to look at the mess that is the crypto cafe in town for examples in how it's not really fit for mass use as of yet.
However, once the hardware catches up with the software, all bets are off imo.
It could be a geocities page or a pets.com or it could be netflix telling you what you might want to watch.
Conversely, you boiling it down to identity politics and (Dramatic Chipmunk) the left, is personally a little troubling.People say I should be more humble I hope they understand, they don't listen when you mumble

I think you have a point DP.
People taking fringe bullshit like transgender bathrooms (or whatever) and elevating it above everything else just annoys the majority, and leads to the perception that the left is just interested in crusading on identity-driven nonsense rather than 'common man' issues.
Thus: the perception of being out of touch arises and you get Trumps."We are not Europeans. Those people on the continent are freaks."

When I asked to name anyone who has ever in his life made him feel he needed to apologise for his skin he changed tack to how our culture has been eroded compared to 100 years ago. When I attempted to point out that white Irish culture today compared to white Irish culture 100 years ago has changed utterly for the better he blew a gasket that I said the word 'white'.
What sort of brain damage do you need to have to provoke an argument with a white fella about saying the word white in a pub in Limerick on a Friday night?
We have hordes of our elderly stuck on trolleys in hospitals and we still have thick cunts spending half their lives arguing with Americans on twitter about the overlap between feminism and gender identity as it applies to Irish toilets.

Left wing people tend to blame the rise of trump of neoliberalism (specifically on how it left many people behind), and many centre right people blame his rise on the failings of left wing politics (specifically identity politics) . I think both arguments are quite vacuous, they both only serve to reinforce the holders already held prejudices

I just remain baffled at people who live in the same place as me seem to have so many problems around the erosion of masculinity, gender issues and reverse racism when I go to all the same bars they do and have yet to have the merest interaction with any of those things.
There are way more pressing issues people could be worrying about that actually occasionally pop up in real life.

Its quite clear by a variety of objective measures that culture both in Ireland and globally is far more egalitarian than any time in history so those longing for a culture of 100 years ago are simply unaware of what actually constitutes true progress.

I set myself a goal this year to get one massage a month and so far, I am 2/2. Just something weird, that when the masseuse takes your hand in theirs, there is a weird urge to hold. Obviously, I don't as that would just be totally weird but there just seems to be a natural reaction to hold somebody's hand when they put your hand in theirs or maybe it's just me??
A girl I know is a trained massage therapist, and she was absolutely horrified by the state of my shoulders/back.

Was strange seeing some old black and white photos on reddit yesterday, they were of group shots of male friends. Seemingly it used to commonplace to hold hands, put their hands on each others legs, all round just cuddle each other really, times changed since then! After all the masculinity "eroding" it might be going back that way, until it comes to fruition and we're all fucking each other like Spartan soldiers increasing camaraderie.

Just pulled in for a coffee in a brand new Applegreen, one of those big ones with a Burger king etc.
Noticed something straight away. Every single member of staff I saw was Irish. Not one foreign born person.
There probably are and are just not working this shift but it seemed unusual.I hold silver in tit for tat, and I love you for that
