AerLingus have refunded me 600 from my flight to vegas earlier in the summer. It was delayed for over 3 hours and missed connecting flight and fucked up a few things for me to be fair.

Flight cost 440 total, I still got to stay in vegas for 2 weeks, chicago for a day and I didn't lose 1500 on the buyin. Claaasss.

30,000 is a tiny tiny drop in the ocean compared to the overal electorate. The repeal campaign will fall at the first hurdle depending on the language of the vote. No way the Irish public votes for abortion for social economic needs aka abortion on demand.

Repeal it, get it out of there, and let the Dáil decide exactly the wording, and let them change it every 3 years if they wish.

The constitution is not the place for it because there is no way that the nuance required to craft legislation is available to the electorate as a whole, and the effort required to amend and update the constitution is over-the-top compared to asking our primary legislature to do their job.

I would venture that your opinion on the suitability of it's location in the Constitution is almost certainly affected by your agreement with the effect/spirit of it.

I wonder if your position on the suitability of direct democracy in forming primary legislation would be so if it were an issue you disagreed with the status quo on.

Also worth considering that every referendum that has passed since the 8th in 1983 on abortion has been to reduce the effects of that amendment. And the referendum to restrict access to information was defeated.

I would consider it likely that many of those who voted in 1983 for the 8th would not have done so with the hindsight available to us now.

funnily enough, I had never heard about pointshack until today. It popped up on my facebook feed with some other CC offer. Luck it did as it reminded me that I had to apply for the AmEx my tomorrow.

I've no idea what they are like at home, but year hugely +EV here. It's funny, in the past I was sort of against credit cards. Just thought the idea of short term stuff on credit was bad money management. I'd never have bought something I didn't have the money for (a house being an exception because you don't have a choice). It was only recently that the points/benefits side of things clicked with me. Now I put everything on it. Shopping, flights, petrol, a $3 coffee. Rack up the points, and leaves more of my money to offset each money.

It's been about 12 month, and it's cost me $0.
This nest one has a $450 fee, but I'll get that back in credit anyway.

Came across something interesting yesterday to do with cars. There's an Irish company called Applegreen that I'd say most drivers are familiar with as they have petrol stations all around the country. They just joined the stock market yesterday, so was looking into them.

Anyway, theres a decent few threads on boards (such as this one, but there's quite a few others) arguing that they sell dodgy fuel. That it doesn't maybe have the same additives as e.g. Maxol, maybe in order to save money, and so it gives less mileage and engine problems.

Boardsies were divided as to whether that was a conspiracy theory of the highest order and others finding the same thing.

Can that be a thing? That different stations mix petrol differently and it can have a major impact? Had assumed all petrol was exactly the same

I'd say you've heard of octane ratings? Petrol is a blend. Lower octane can cause knocking and other issues (although I don't think it's an issue in modern cars). Lead was great for boosting the octane level until they realised the health effects. Nowadays they use carcinogens like benzene instead.

I don't know anything about Irish fuel distribution, it's possible that they could be selling inferior fuels but I'd be sceptical that it'd be noticeably different.

Most petrol stations here sell a few types of petrol.

Standard unleaded
E10 Unleaded (10% ethanol/alcohol)
Premium unleaded (higher octane)

A lot of the bigger chains will offer two premium grades 95 and 98 octane. Standard is 91. The e10 is the cheapest, its 94 octane which makes the 95 premium a wast of time unless you a very fuzzy sports car that can't run E10.
I'd be surprised if every petrol in ireland was identical, but id also be surprised is any chain were pumping high octance stuff as standard prices

You do realize that we had absolutely no legal abortion in Ireland prior to the 8th amendment and that the Supreme Court had explicitly stated that the privacy doctrine that lead to abortion in the US would find no favor in the Irish Courts?

A fringe group of ultra-Catholics drove a campaign to get the 8th and in the ultimate irony the idiotic wording of it (which the AG at the time explicitly warned about) actually mandates access to abortion in certain circumstances. I don’t know how everyone in the whole country isn’t in favor of repeal. We can have an argument about what we want to replace it and whether we want some form of access to abortion but the idiocy of the 8th amendment is that it managed to give absolutely nobody what they wanted.

If they do proper points, yeah it's a huge advantage. You can use the points for flights, household stuff, or prepaid cards etc. It's just like airmiles.
I'm flying to Bali for Christmas with my points from this year. And with this card I applied for today. I get 100k points if I spend 1500 by december.

If they don't do any of that then there's less of a point obviously. Maybe worth it from an offset POV if spending a lot of if its a free CC
