500km on a single charge in the new cheap(-ish) Tesla. Thats got to be 99.999999% of car journies sorted. What would the new Tesla sell at in Ireland with all the various taxes added if its $44,000 in the US?

But it's not 44k$. Thats for the entry level model.

If you want the long range model with autopilot, etc (and you really do) its more like 60k$.

EV forum people on boards are suggesting somewhere around 40k € for the base model here with grants, etc allowed for.

Also just to put some scale to it.. the model 3.. as a small car.. is the same size as a passat estate!

Hmm 1k extra for any colour other than black, plus how would somebody buy this and not want full antonymous extra etc. They bundled a lot of the cheaper extras into a mandatory 5k package for production purposes too. Glass roof looks pretty sweet.

Vegan leather seats as standard!

What is "vegan leather"??!

It's man-made materials trying to approximate the feel and durability of leather, trying to improve on it if they can (sweaty/stickiness etc). Used to be shitty polyurethane only years ago but there are loads of different microfibres now that are really good.

A lot of high end brands will use it now, Ferrari etc. Tesla have made all their seating options vegan. Alcantara (kindof fake suede) is used in Mercedes, BMW, Audi etc and has been used for 40 years.

It's also used in jackets, bags, shoes, wallets, belts whatever. You can get really cheap shit ones or good quality stuff. Same thing has happened with wool, silk, suede etc, there are loads of scientifically made ones that are improving while trying to get cheaper than the real thing. All my shoes and boots would be made from Italian microfibres resembling leather or suede. There is even some stuff made from pineapple "leather" now:

That's a rather large question and is country dependent.

In general most wool comes from sheep sheared on industrial farms, where they are subject to rough handling, mulesing and slaughter well before the end of their natural lives. Further, sheep in the wool industry are selectively bred for wrinkled skin so they grow more wool, which makes them vulnerable to flystrike and injury during shearing. There are plenty of videos of routine breaking of even the crap laws that exist.

Finally, rams are valued less than ewes because they cannot produce offspring, so they are either castrated without anaesthetic or slaughtered for meat at a young age. Therefore, it is quite clear that sheep suffer and die in the wool industry, which makes the use of wool an ethical issue.

Now of course somebody will say well that doesn't happen on my friends farm down the road in Mayo (while wearing their American woollen socks) or some sheep have been bred in such a way that they now have to be sheared, and so on and then it gets into specifics and I don't want to keep typing when i should be working

Yep that's out the window. The max pay for associate prof in Trinners is about same as current pay and they don't hire full profs. So would be going back to same pay and much higher costs. Plus there's a straight route to full prof here with no messing, which would be in two years.

The main thing though is that there would be no-one serious to collaborate with in Dublin, so you'd end up hampering your career. 40-45 are the critical career years for a biz researcher, so would be mad to take a position that would cut off your legs.

*think* it'll be either an industry position next. Which would probably be Dublin or Switzerland. Or a move to a higher ranked school in the same position, possibly in somewhere like Switzerland. As then you get the leverage power of researching with even better people, although do have excellent people to work with at the moment.

In Sept, i've to fly to London and Greece - Anybody know of any issues with flying to either with less than 6 months left on passport.

I'm pretty sure UK is fine and I can't see any requirement for Greece on the DFA website but just want to double check with the all knowing BBV?
