Up until recently the Church ruled our silly land. Fact. The Government were influenced by their beliefs and Rome dictated to them. It was a sin to stick on a johnnie whilst you molested your niece for example.
The old adage of power corrupting was rife in the Church. They knew they had a psychological hold on the masses (pardun the pun) and they used that power to enable and protect cruelty, neglect and sex abuse. (among many other atrocities)
The words used over this issue are probably emotional and designed to hit our outrage button to the nth degree but the fact remains the value of life in these places was very low indeed and especially on people who were deemed as sinners(lol) This imbalance as to who was cared for and who died is in fact as morally bad as murder. (hmm selective -Trump/Hitler/me in Copperface Jacks)
To also disrespect the existence of these apparent tarnished souls that they were just dumped after death is as callous as any executioner. Imagine the mindset of someone who would say, just throw the body into the pit. Oh here’s another one FFS.
If you contemplate to manage an avoidable death you are morally the same as a murderer. But we can argue semantics all day , people have their views on the letter of the law and what is right and wrong and swap them around to please themselves.
Natural causes does not equate to gross neglect. Natural causes does not equate to being a low life sinner. Natural causes does not equate to the selective starvation of children deemed unworthy for this world. It was systemic processing of the unwanted and a large % of them met their doom through this processing. As for Nuns , where you have a poster hag like Mother Teresa what’s a little local selective cruelty.
Dramatic scenes in the High Court. Peter Mulryan is seeking Tusla records of his dead sister in Tuam. #tuambabies
Letter from Sister Marie Ryan of Bon Secours nuns read out in High Court, saying the order cannot help, as it's unaware of burial records.
Kevin Higgins, solicitor for Peter Mulryan, then read out Sister Marie Ryan's 2013 letter to Anna Corrigan admitting knowledge of mass grave
Bon Secours Sister Marie Ryan says Tuam records were given to State in 1961. Tusla says files weren't received till 2011. #tuambabies

As archaeologists excavate the Tuam Mother and Baby Home site where 796 children are believed to be buried, questions remain unanswered, writes Donal O’Keeffe. Last Monday was the first day of the test excavation of the former site of the Tuam Mother and Baby Home, where it is believed that at least some of the […]
I don't think accusing the catholic church of murder would be a good move for anyone. As you say she had to fight long and hard just to prove that they weren't 19th century famine victims.
Per her research:
The most common causes of death were “debility from birth” (25%), 15% from “respiratory diseases”, 10% each from influenza and the measles, 8% born too premature to survive, 6% from whooping cough and in smaller numbers of epilepsy/convulsions, gastroenteritis, meningitis, congenital heart disease and congenital syphilis, skin diseases, chicken pox and one per cent – 10 children – of malnutrition

Best place to park near the GPO on a Tuesday afternoon pls
Arnotts is the closest, but you have to go up O'Connell St with Luas works. I only do it late in the evening when it's not that busy so not sure what'll be like on a Tuesday avo

I'm guessing that information came form death certificates and the like, which were presumably filled out by the nuns themselves. So about as credible as a report on cause of death from Harold Shipman.

Actually, no.
I don't know if you've ever had to procure a death certificate. I have and there's quite a body of law around them.
In short, they have to be issued by a medical practitioner. That's as much the case now as it was when the Tuam home was open.
This is correct. Outside the shops at Bluebell is free but you might have traffic on the way out.
If you really have to park in town Marlborough street is usually best for getting in and out of.
I have people who believe in the afterlife, church leaders, supreme beings and ancient text in the same category as those who believe in fairies, angels, fortune tellers, Bertie and the lotto.
I tolerate them with a smile and a nod, all the while thinking 'you crazy imbecile'.
Good old Voltaire makes his second contribution in 24 hours to the almighty BBV, the one true text.
Once your faith, sir, persuades you to believe what your intelligence declares to be absurd, beware lest you likewise sacrifice your reason in the conduct of your life. In days gone by, there were people who said to us: "You believe in incomprehensible, contradictory and impossible things because we have commanded you to; now then, commit unjust acts because we likewise order you to do so." Nothing could be more convincing. Certainly any one who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices.

Sure, issued by a medical practitioner. I'm under the impression that the nuns were all trained nurses and midwives? So it's pretty likely the who ever issued a cert who at the very least confer with the medical professional on site and present at the time.
There's lots of cases of measles and such. Fair enough, there was probably some sort of medical awareness there. But there's plenty where a disabled child died of a sudden fit. I assume in cases like that there was no autopsy and the doctor just issued a cert based on the fact they were always a sick and weak child, according to whoever.
FWIW, I think the truth is somewhere between the "800 babies murdered" and "natural causes" extremes.
The main issue is that there no context to the number. 796 is simply a horrible image. But what does that mean in real terms. From the records is looks like it was over 36 years. How many babies were born at the home, what does 796 translate to in terms of a mortality rate? I'd expect it to be higher than a national average, which was probably disturbingly high in itself at the time.
This is what a level behind Messi looks like in England. He's unreal. I've kept my mouth shut all season but he's now done too many good things. Maybe he's as good as Messi and this is what Messi looks like in England? His turn of pace and reading of the game is better when on the counter, just a pity he isnt good enough to make the game about him and dictate. Then again no good English team has ever centered their team around one player, they've also never had the greatest player ever recently.
Such a pleasure to watch this man at work when on form, baffled he's never linked with moves away. Part of me wants to see how he'd rip La Liga apart.
The other 99% of me is delighted he thinks people who believe in a God are idiots.

Whatever about the rest, this part is blatantly untrue. Man city and Aguero, liverpool and suarez/dalglish, arsenal and henry, etc.
No beast so fierce but knows some touch of pity, but I know none, therefore am no beast.

I think your last sentence is key. None of us have first-hand experience of just how poor and priest-ridden Ireland was in those days. Except strewel obv.
We were a poor and backward nation, very much cut off from European liberalism and progressive thought. Ironically of course this also saved us from being embroiled in WW2. The ultimate historical lucky break.
That historical context explains how and why things like the Tuam Babies happened. In order to judge the actions of those involved, you have to view them through the prism of that historical context. The causes on those death certificates say fairly (to our 21st century eyes) things like 'measles' or 'ear infection'.
The truth is that the causes of death should equally read 'died of poverty, ignorance and fear'. As could be applied to so many at that time who never made it near one of these institutions.

Why is it not handball? Is there a rule that using the back of your arm is ok while using the front is not.

Definition. A handball occurs if any player, other than the team's goalkeeper within his own penalty area, deliberately handles the ball when in play. A ball can be handled with any part of the arm, from the tips of a player's fingers right up to the shoulder.
