Saw a video of water protesters I vaguely know for the first time, so cringy. Almost as bad as this comment:
Ask yourself this question "why would anyone want to privatise water?"
The answer is, because there is a huge profit to be made from our surplus water by selling it to countries that need it.
Hitch/Raoul, could you explain IW being 'off balance sheet' in 2 or 3 sentences please. No Hotspur/Kayroo speak either
Had an interview on Monday, this came up. Denny gave me a perfect answer and got to use it. Also had a few responses on here to good/bad projects in the news lately. Not saying its the sole reason, but got the job/promotion (big shock to me). Gone from IT after 20 years but looking forward to the new role.
Usually take Thanksgiving off but was in because of an OPEC meeting; ended up being handed my best day on a platter. I'm just left tilted though because it was just short of a nice round number, no matter how irrational that is.
So the Canadian Government offer a Tax Free Savings Account to all citizens, and even temp residents and workers provided some stipulations are met.
You are able to contribute 5,500 CAD a yr into this account, anything over is penalised heavily. Here's the rub, your contribution can be in a myriad of asset forms and ANY gain on those assets from the contribution date is tax free. It has 5yr limit, so a 27,500 max contribution.
If I have understood it correctly, I am struggling to think of a downside, or a better account to gamble the shit out of it / Invest in long long term compounding assets when young and responsibility free. Can anyone be devils advocate? Obviously if I lose the loot I have no Tax Free Savings account for the rest of my Canadian life (which could be the same as my actual life, or a minor subset...depending).
This may or may not be an original thought of my own.

Yeah a lot of Canadians use those for low risk investments which is lunacy, you're massively incentivised to gamble it up particularly when young in order to maximise the tax free benefit.
You'd have to consider your future plans, income & gains in it may be tax free in Canada, but if you are resident in Aus, Ireland or elsewhere it may still be taxable where you're resident.
If you plan to stay in Canada indefinitely then it seems a no brainer.

Oh yeah absolutely! I mean, that kinda stuff can be managed though. Tax resident is a liquid enough term in most countries usually based on months in country, residential ties, employment, spousal situation etc etc. Never has 'Where there is a will, there is a way' been more applicable than to choosing where you are tax resident. Ask Bono. The Pox.
That said, my aus visa hasn't been approved yet (pretty sure my potential employer is imcompetent) and I've taken up employment here with a pretty sweet company who are aggressively growing from Canada/US into Aus and Europe (the dream is alive). I'm also nailing a pretty hot Canadian bird and snowboarding every weekend.
Canada is sweet for now, and if my visa does ever come through I'll cross that bridge. Its a strange situation altogether.
tl;dr
Bono is a pox.
Canada is good.
Aus isn't dead.

Pretty standard in most countries no?
ie France and England do the same as far as I'm aware, so assume most countries do it also.

Against my better judgment I find myself in Limerick tonight. Is Fitzpatrick's any use? Might just go see the new Hunger Games film. Or Interstellar actually! Haven't seen that one yet.
You are technically correct...the best kind of correct

Timeout card room and casino. Only opened a few weeks. Being run by Lplate. I think the address is Parnell Plaza. Directly opposite the train station.

Jackpot. So now I've 3 countries of which to open one of these accounts in, wish I had an indentical twin. Would make the inevitable tax avoidance much easier. All that said, I guess you have to make gains to be taxed and avoid it.

Get the Chromecast and plex app for android. This plays anything you have downloaded on your computer plus your photos and home videos. It also runs in the background so you can continue to use your phone/tablet. Netflix etc also play from android straight Chromecast.
A HDMI cable is not want I was aiming for. We have them and use them on the other Tv's if needed. I saw the chromecast for £20 and was thinking of getting it but was not sure if it would do the job I am looking for hence the question.
Cheers for the replies. I like the idea I can still use my laptop while using the chromecast so might go ahead with what Kieran suggested.

Piece of piddle to watch netflix using a chromecast.

If your TV has a spare HDMI port and USB port (although you can use a plug to power it instead of a tv usb) then go for it. It's handy for many things.

you want netflix on the tv, then chromecast is 100% the best option. it turns your tv into a smart tv, that its!
I used to use Plex from my lappy to my smart tv but had problems with it most of the time. it didnt always show up on the tv .
Since I got the new laptop, life is easier as when I go to a movie file I now have the option to send to LG tv. same with phone , tablets etc. just send to. I think that option will be there for you too with chromecast. its awesome! Mia watches you tube videos that way. just sends them straight to tv

We have the Smart TV downstairs and it's great. Any films i have downloaded on the laptop, i can just right click on them, and get them to play straight on the TV using the WiFi. Same with Music. I use it loads!

connecting laptop to tv used to drive himself mad! The screen light used to bug him and had to be facing away and then the mouse ( that the flushdraws kindly posted to me) tripped him up one night while going for a refill lol fuck that!

Forget about the laptop!
Download the chromecast and Netflix apps on your phone, click play on your Netflix app and cast to the tv.
The chromecast is a great little piece of kit.

Yeah got an email last night saying it went live this morning at 9am, so i wonder if they got their 1000 yet? Was trying to decide if it's worth it, and decided against it. They answered a lot of questions on their FB page just incase anyone is thinking about it.

Would like to get this for my Dad for Xmas. Anybody know if there is a way I can ring up on his behalf and pay up front?

It's an online offer only. Once you have his Sky Viewing card number and a method of payment, that should be all you need. It's a one off payment required to get it anyway.
Award season screeners starting to drop Still Alice, Fury, Mr Turner and Annie (2014) all now available.

Possibly stupid question from a relative noob. If i switch off when i'm mid downloading torrents, will it continue from where it left off when i open up the program again? (using Tixati), and will it be an uninterupted view or will i notice where it was downloaded in 2 or more parts?

From what I understand about torrenting (i've been doing it for about 10 years) is that you download many different parts of a file from many different seeds.
Your client pieces them altogether.
So to answer your question - if you pause downloading and then restart - it'll make no difference to your final file.
