I cycle in and out of the city centre every working day.
Rightly or wrongly i have the same view of Taxi drivers as the rest of this forum .

But the biggest clueless fcuktards on Dublin roads are cyclists.
I do end up in work angry at times.

I see a guy from time to time on the canal between Harolds x and Portobello. On the south side so not using the cycle track. The fucker has a kid on the handlebars and two kids on scooters on the path beside him. Causing havoc. That fucker should be locked up.

TD if that's the worst that's happened to you count yourself lucky. It's so unsafe in rush hours and sadly it's going to take ANOTHER fatal accident before anything is done.

I can really relate to that looking at these pictures, my 16 year old self practically punched holes in the walls listening to 'the men behind the wire' etc, but I know now, through study, and (relative) maturity that the NI conflict was far from simplistic. I am also aware of the clusterfuck that would be SF holding any real power in this country.

Worst motorcycling accident I've had in the last 5 years was when the cigarette I was smoking blew back and got caught between my helmet,and my cheek. The 20 seconds or so that it took to pull in safely lead to quite a serious burn.

In other countries mandatory cycle helmet laws have reduced cycling to such an extent that it increases the danger for those who do continue to cycle. Counterintuitive buts its a safety in numbers thing. We need to aim for Holland levels of mass cycling but helmets are rarely used there.

I read on the cycling forum that a lot are against it because there is data showing that wearing a helmet can cause more damage somehow so there is a bit of controversy. That seems unintuitive to me but doesn't mean it's true or not, for less serious incidents it would definitely save you.

Had to wave goodbye to wife and kid at the airport. No Finland for me, my poor brother in law passed away today. Cancer is a cunt. This brave man/soul devoted to my sister as she got sicker and sicker from her own illness . As luck would have it he ends up dying himself. I'm not religous myself but he definitely left a presence in the room as I entered to say goodbye. I know we can imagine these things but let's say my imagination was heightened like never before. How does one drag those suffering out from the dark mire of grief? Folks if you smoke, cease. It's fucking killing you .

We need to aim for Holland levels of mass cycling but helmets are rarely used there.

It would be great but you need Netherlands (or Germany, Denmark, etc.. Copenhagen is usually recognised as the best city to cycle in in the world) levels of investment in the infrastructure which means not just painting white lines down the sides of roads that were too narrow for the road traffic they had to begin with. Well in the inner city at least. You would basically have to completely rip up the inner city everywhere to build proper segregated bike lanes and re-engineer every junction/roundabout.

On quiet country roads the painted white lines thing works very well.

Now this infrastructure investment in NL actually means that cyclists are not allowed to share the road with cars (sucks for serious cyclists) and if you try you will probably be killed if you arent lucky enough to be told where to go by the police first.

It would take a massive attitude shift though. In NL the whole place is set up around cycling/walking and if you are in an urban area most things are within walking distance or there is available (though not necessarily cheap) public transport. Additionally children are actually taught how to behave when cycling and interacting with other traffic. If you visit in the summer you will see school classes doing their "cycling test". Beyond this you also have to teach drivers how to act properly around cyclists.

- Every place that has made helmets mandatory has seen a massive reduction in cycling.

We still have no idea if there will be a deal or not. We might finally have something approaching what would have been acceptable to extend and continue the 2nd bailout, but now we're x weeks further into an absolute death slide for the Greek economy, and applying for a fresh bailout requires approval through the various parliaments (including poorer countries!).

It will make for an interesting book some day, but it's thus far been a painful lesson on how not to try and fix Greece.

Moreover, in fairness to them, recall that they were given false assurances by Syriza leaders. Varoufakis insisted that banks would reopen last Tuesday no matter what, and that Greece has four months of pharmaceutical supplies. Tsipras assured voters that with a fresh mandate, he would get a better deal from the creditors. Party officials vociferously denied the assertion by European leaders meant a vote against the Eurozone and would be taken as a vote for a Grexit.

Was at a funeral myself this morning.

One of my mates younger sister given two weeks to live from cancer, passed away on Wednesday 11 days later. 30 years of age, two young kids, horrible horrible shit.
