I looked for threads on boards (and on citizensinformation.ie, etc) for clear info but didn't find any that I thought was 100% clear, so a little help would be appreciated.

After years of procrastination I am changing my address which is in a different constituency. Is form RFA3 the correct one for this or should I complete form RFA for my current local authority where I am not registered?

I also need to get removed from my current local authority list. Do I do this using form RFA1 where I put in the address to remove from the register in section 2 and then send to my current voting local authority? Do I need to put in my current address in section 1 of this form even if it is in a different constituency?

Do I then need to wait for confirmation that I have been removed from that constituency before I can apply for inclusion in my current local authority supplement (or full application)?

There doesn't seem to be any joined up information that I have found on this so any help appreciated. A lot of questions, but if someone could post exactly what I need to do I would appreciate it, thanks.

I wouldn't bother removing yourself form your old LA, just get your family to do so next time they receive a form or get a caller re register.

I'm voting yes but truthfully not that invested in it, but there is plenty of people dead set against it who keep it to themselves lest they get publically shamed as a bigot. Ireland is nowhere near as liberal in attitudes towards sex as many would like to think, even when it comes to attitudes towards heterosexuality. You only have to look at the comments on pages like embarrassing drunk photos on Facebook or the attitudes you see on display from all sides when something like slane girl breaks.

I future proofed and bought the ds214j. 4 bays of 2TB each. Half full already.
I'm not a fan of the 'cloud', so I created my own cloud, which syncs to my various devices, keeping everything as private as I can. Music, video, docs, photos are all available to me anywhere there is a network connection via personalised log in.

Only downside, if there's a fire or my NAS gets stolen,, I'm fooked.

What do you what to do with it? Synology is obv the nuts but you can do the same job with something else for a fraction of the price.

Edit: only on my phone so difficult to into detail, but you could probably do the job with a raspberry pi attached to the HD.

I added extra ram to run squeezebox but you probably don't need it. It has four hard drive bays so plenty of space. It's not silent but if it's going in a house I'm sure you can hide it somewhere.

I put on windows home server and run SB,Plex,xbmc, coachpotato, torrents, iTunes shared database, just about everything off it and it auto downloads and files away all my media.


I use remote desktop/team viewer (when away from home) to control it via my phone and es file explorer if I just want to move some files around.

I picked up one of those Mini X8 H plus android boxes off a seller on adverts and am fairly impressed with it, running XBMC and it seems to be a lot more stable than when I last used it and very irregularly have any issues with finding a great stream for a movie/tv show i'm looking to watch.

Have it running into an AV receiver connected to a ceiling mounted projector which I treated myself to pre-christmas.

I used to go the coachpotato/torrent way but was too much effort, once internet connectivity is not a problem (and I can only get regular old eircom phone line internet, not fibre optic) than I don't see why everyone wouldn't go down the xbmc route.

On the man cave, I'm having trouble roof mounting the projector screen and just have it projecting on a dark grey wall at the moment, it's not perfect but still seriously impressive considering.

All that's left to complete is to find a better solution to powering the projector (currently have an extension cable meeting the power cable of the projector sitting on a ladder - ideally don't want to be getting electricians in to move the power socket), and also get some storage to clean up the AV receiver/ PS4/ Mini X8 setup.

How did the laudable goal of getting people to be more understanding about mental health turn into the current torrent of " look at me, I'm depressed" posts on social media. I'm really not convinced that laying your soul bare on facebook for the world to see is a good idea in the medium to long term for someone who is depressed. Once the likes and the "so brave" platitudes wear off what are you left with? Sure if you have achieved in the business world or have an all Ireland medal in your back pocket you might spin that Facebook post up into being an official mental health talking head in the media or sell a few extra copies of the book that coincidentally was released at the same time you decided to be so "brave" but I would guess the majority with serious depression don't have the shield of sporting or business success two to retreat to if the reaction isn't all they hoped it would be.

I'm pretty sure I mentioned it here before and may have linked the article, but there's a theory that all this "it's okay to be depressed" isn't actually a good thing. By creating a society in which depression is accepted, it could actually increase the rates of depression compared with the times of trying to ignore depression and pretend it didn't exist. It's a pretty controversial article and wouldn't be widely accepted, but it does have some good points that make you think. I can't find the article that I'm thinking of, but this is in a somewhat similar vein:

Depression in men is something that has always been a part of civilized society but has only been recently recognized for what it is and given its name. However as conditions in our society worsen the rates of depression increase.

We on the other hand are on a fanatical quest to rid ourselves of our flaws and stand atop the earth as its master and ruler.

This has been the subconscious goal of all civilized cultures and societies. A rumbling thought in the back of our minds even if we have not been aware of it.

This approach causes many problems, especially environmental and economic ones. But it also produces a society that is not ideal for human individuals to grow and flourish. The machine grows and flourishes but the spirit of the individual suffers and dies.

We are oppressed by the need to work horrendous hours. We no longer live in the supportive social unit of the tribe but isolate ourselves away. We have lost our humanity.

This is what causes depression in men in my opinion. Not something wrong with you, not bad wiring in the brain. And despite the fact that it seems normal these days, it is not normal. Not because you are not normal, but because society is not normal.

A lot of the time it could be normal adolescent feelings but it's mistaken for depression. Obviously there still are plenty of genuinely depressed teenagers, but a lot mistake other feelings for depression. And because of modern views of depression in society, you can't simply tell someone "you're not depressed". I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but the acceptance of depression does mean it's tougher to deal with people who think they are depressed when in fact they are not. I suppose there's never going to be any easy answers with such a complex issue.

However I decided to go with freenas on it purely for storage and I'm getting another PC/Server to load with ESXi/Hyper-V for IT training/study. Freenas will be used for iscsi storage to the ESXi/Hyper-V VMs.

While talking about it in a wrong fashion leads to some problems, there is nothing worse than ignoring it and leaving those people to suffer. Lack of understanding as you point out is terrible. Most people don't know one iota about it, but everybody assumes they do. I've watched that have serious implications, damaging people, and I believe my lack of understanding has done same. I personally think a part of it is society is getting technology and changing too rapidly for some people to handle, they get overwhelmed and have poor social interaction to boot. Caveman mind in a modern world. Such a horrible affliction.
