I tried it a couple of times on MW2 and Black Ops. Pretty decent game immersion imo, being able to hear shrapnel fly past and hear the location of footsteps. The sound is fucking loud though. Clarity obviously not the same as using the likes of your X12s but it is nice piece of kit.

Five card game was a 20 rebuy fundraiser for the GAA club organised by my old man and one of his buddies, they ended up getting > 50 runners and clearing probably close to 3k for the club so happy days.
Ended up coming third which I was a bit pissed with, since my table was badly fucked over when we were down to two tables with our table having only three players to the other table's four, and not only did we not play hand for hand but the organiser (not my dad) sat in to deal on our table and enforced some dodgy rule that made Aces the minimum openers every hand. We basically anted up for around thirty hands without an open, ending up with ~3/4 of all our stacks in the middle with no actual play until eventually the other two got it in with two pair vs trips, I'm left with fumes and the other guy (my dad ) takes the almost full table's chips to the FT. Caught a few cards to outlast the others to finish third then. My old man won it which means I'm going to have to listen to him for weeks

The best finish to a draw tournament I ever took part in (usual fundraiser stuff) saw the pub management give us a 10 minute warning with still 2 tables in action, roughly 6 or 7 on each.
The 'tournament director' made an executive decision that whoever had the most chips (actually monopoly money) after the current hand would be the winner. And whoever had the most chips on the other table would be the second place finisher. Only top 2 paid because of the usual side prizes for best hand, best woman, etc. I'd already folded when he made the decision so 3 hours of chipping up (monoplying up) to nicely above average stack saw me suddenly with no actual chance of going further.
Meanwhile the 2 players still involved in the hand on the other table saw that their best option was to go all-in as between them they had more chips than was still available for play on our table so they could lock up the first place prize (4 times as big as the second place prize) and split it.
Left the place with a headache.

They used to do something similar in casinos in England up to about 4 year ago for relatively major buy in NLH events - think Ollieboy from here got caught up in one once. Julian Gardner told me a few story's about exploiting it back in the day, was down to finishing events before casino's had to close.

Bought a new gel pocket mattress yesterday. Decided to treat myself to a bloody expensive one, and the salesman telling me it was the latest thing and only on the market recently, leaving memory foam as old news made my mind up. I'm just glad I resisted spending another 1200 on a really cool telly I don't really need but would really like.
I went with a budget in mind for the mattress but spent nearly twice that . Looking forward to sleeping in it though once it eventually gets delivered.

I'm A bit stuck on one clue in the Crosaire Christmas prize crossword
32 Down
Pretty sure that I have the right answer and the logic for it being 'Baby' and its just a really shit clue...or am I missing something.
Maybe the CKid or anyone else who does it?
How are people getting on with the new guy? He doesn't seem to have the same sense of fun or make me smile as often as Derek did but it is challenging enough to keep me entertained.Turning millions into thousands

WORST BAD BEAT EVER!!!
Was playing a weekly game in Birr going back a couple weeks ago, run by "Donk Magnet" amongst others!!
Anyways my position is one after the button...
Bout 20players left of 90...
I have 270K, blinds 4k/8K
lad UTG raises to 40K, 2 callers after him then the action is on me..
I look down at JJ, so i shove all in for 270K
The initial raiser folds as does the lad after him
But the next lad calls all his stack(255K) with A10 off.....(Brutal Call)!!
Anyways the flop comes J44..... Happy days!!!
Turn = 4
River = 4
****PUKE, nearly got SICK**** In all my time watching and playing poker thats the worst EVER bad beat I've seen and it just had to happen to me...
And another thing that made it worse was there was a lady sitting at my table as well and when the board ran out the way it did all ya could hear was her shouting " ohhhh four of a kind with an ACE kicker "..... "ohhh 4 of a kind with an ace kicker"
As if losing to the sickest bad beat ive ever witnessed ya have some woman shouting it out as if i haldnt a clue what had happened!
Lets just say I fairly put her in her place because she wasn't in the hand in the first place....

I'm thinking with all the NFL interest on here there has to be something to it. I figure the best way to get into it and start watching games is to follow a team. Gonna random.org the teams and chose whatever comes in at number 7 and stick with them. Any teams I should just omit as they'd make following NFL hell? (Like Leeds are doing to my love of soccer!!).

The Saints have always been my second love and I always end up following them more with interest.
Its always nice to pick someone who you can get a sweat off of.
Good luck with starting to get into it. May take awhile before you begin to love the sport.

These are, I think, the two franchises most likely to move, and it'd be strange to be suddenly faced with cheering on the Portland Raiders or the Los Angeles Jags.
Its generally very open, teams can go from Superbowl one season to not being Top12 the next season (and vica versa) in a way which rarely happens in European sport.
Heres a win/loss record of the last decade which might give you a few to avoid, though interestingly 3 of the bottom 5 could be in the playoffs this year.

If I book tickets to a gig in Vicar St tomorrow night on ticketmaster do I collect the tickets at the venue or do I have to go a ticketmaster office or something tomorrow?
Any way of avoiding the ludicrous €4.50 a ticket booking fee, or is it just part of the game.

My first issue of Grantland Quarterly arrived today.
http://www.mcsweeneys.net/grantland
Really impressed with the look of it. It's basically the best stuff from the past 3 months with a few new articles and amazing artwork thrown in.
It'll look pretty cool on the bookshelf that I haven't got.
Edit: For anyone thinking of getting an NFL jersey, Nike are designing them from 2012 onwards so whatever you get will be replaced next year.Last edited by Lurker23; 30-12-11, 20:58.
