Lots of fisherman in England fish for carp and use bait called boilies about the size of a large marble ducks love them so can be caught using these.
I hooked one when fishing with my cousin there when i was 13 thankfully he escaped after 3 or 4 frightening seconds.

A piece of bread and some line and a hook reckon you could get 3 4 ducks off a slice.

Off connemara on a charter boat and the skipper hooked and caught a large gull would have been easier to smash
it but he been used to this grabbed bird and unhooekd it after getting pecked.
