Techies, please help.

My Sony Vaio laptop screen went black last night but the power was still on with a movie playing. I tried closing the lid and opening as well as restrting but it stays black. Any ideas?

If it cant be fixed, i guess i'd spend about €800 on a new laptop. All i use it for is web browsing, watching movies as well as hooking it up to the tv to wtach some movies. Any recommendations appreciated.

If you connect it to your tv now can you get a picture?

Also you could easily pick up a new and pretty decent laptop for 500/600.

I am gonna wait for the HTC Sensation which should be out on Meteor in a couple of weeks (think you can get it through CPW) its available already on Vodafone, also the Galaxy S II has just some top quality specs and is suppose to be a beast of a phone but me personally I hate the Samsung software, also had a chance to mess with the Sony Ericsson Arc and it looked good, the Windows phone HTC Trophy seemed decent but I honestly don't think Windows phones will get any kind of major backing.

I would say its a toss up between the HTC Sensation & Galaxy S II the Sensation feels like a much more solid phone compared to the Galaxy, I just thought I would throw out a few extra phones incase you wanted some variety.

Had a great night last night, first time at a Lithuanian party. it started at 4pm, there was myself ausra , her friend and mother and Neringa joined us at 7.

There was mountains of food on the table, food that I wouldnt have tried before like eggs stuffed with fish and onions and open pork sandwiches with cucumber, lots of olives everywhere ( which are addictive).

I brought 4 bottles of bacardi Breezer and a bottle of champagne with me, i really wanted to take it easy ( wasnt to be )
Her friend asked me would i like a Martini so i said ya i would try one, good jayus, in the glass there was gin and lots of martini and lots of olives in the glass with a slice of lemon, i asked what mixer was in it, they looked at me like i had 2 heads, " none " they replied, " its not good to put mixers in your drink.............ugh i just could not drink it , so i left it there!

shortly after myself and Ausra oped the champagne, went down lovely, the others had vodka............... raw in shot glasses, maybe one every 10 minutes, they held the shot glass in one hand and a big glass of orange juice in the other hand, so throw back the vodka and then take a swig of orange juice!!

Anyway the time had come to try out the jacuzzi hot tub omg i want one, she bought it in homebase, 950 quid reduced to 350!!! and well worth it!
the water was heated to 40 degrees, it was just heaven!
I said to ausra at one stage, i have to go to the toilet, she says " just go behind the shed, get the hose and hose yourself after and climb back in " ..................very funny at the time!

at this stage the vodka was flowing, so they decided michelle has to drink the lithuain way ughhh, so i did , had about 6 shots or so, have to say it was fun and i cant believe i dont have a hangover this morning, they maintain its the mixers that give you the hangover!

only bad part of the night was when i went to the kitchen to get my phone and got slapped off the floor, cutting my foot and elbow

so all in all i had a fantastic night with a difference!!!

right im off to Homebase!!!

2. How many telephone extension sockets do you have?
3a. Do you have an NTE5 master socket?
3b. If yes to question 3a, have you tried the test socket?
3c. If yes to question 3b, how long for and did you notice an improvement in your connection?
3d. Do you have an iPlate or ADSL faceplate?
4. Is your modem/router connected to your Master Socket?
5. Are you experiencing any problems with your phone service?
6. What modem are you using? (Make & Model)?
7. Have you tested with an alternative modem? (Make & Model)
8. Have you tested with a different microfilter?
9. Are you using a telephone extension lead?
10. What is your modem SNR Margin down and up?
11. What is your bandwidth (Connection or sync speed) down and up?
12. What is your attenuation down and up?
13. Are you experiencing the disconnections at any specific time?

Colombian independence day on Wednesday. No booze allowed and it was the most subdued celebration Iv ever been at. Just one big march and then that's it.

Myself and my mate think we were drugged the other day also. Ended up going out Sunday night. Had some cocktails and then places started to close so tried our usual steel door coke and hookers bar but even that was shut so off to somewhere else at like 1am. Half bottle rum for a tenner and the dj playing whatever we wanted. All of a sudden it's 6 hours later the guy we are with has been dancing with a hooker for 3 hours, we were up doing salsa on the stage while two strippers worked two poles either side. pictures of some shirtless guy getting it on in the background and jus all round mayhem at 6am on a Monday. Strange night

I've read all Carlo's posts from Asia and back to the start of his Africa trip - gotta say, your volunteering trip was amazing reading, I'd never have the bottle to give three months of my life to something like that, I'm really impressed and a bit in awe of both of ye! The travel in Africa sounds AWFUL, I'd be completely unable to put up with it, did a lot in Asia and although it can be painful (12 hour train journey in a sweatbox carriage in 3rd class in China, for example), what ye went through in Africa sounds 1,000,000% worse!
