    Dealing school/courses

    Hi,
I'm just looking for some information on dealing courses in Ireland. I've googled it and I've seen courses that where ran in the past but nothing mentioned for the future. There was alot advertised for England but that's just not an option at the moment.I was hoping that that someone might know of a course been ran locally. Any suggestion and help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

There are no courses in Ireland that I'm aware of..

All training is usually 'In-House'. I have trained dealers in the past but they were working for me.

It was actually the guys from the voodoo who got The Star setup and also ran the dealer course I beleive, I'd say give the voodoo a ring see are the running any more would be your best bet

A member here Brian Byrne took that coarse if I'm not mistaken and got a job out of it.

Hopefully he will see this and maybe put a reply in if not you could always send him a private message to see if he could help.

            You need practical experience but

I have a book "The Professional Dealer's Handbook" by Dan Paymar, Donna Harris, Mason Malmuth (235 pages). I was never a dealer, except as a favour. The book is American so some of it may seem a little strange. The price to you is €0.00. PM me your address if you want it.

Where's locally for you? It'd prob help to say what area you live in.

You never know, someone might be reading this who may be looking for dealers.
It helps that you seem keen, and with alot of festivals running in Ireland at the moment that obviously need alot of dealers, anything that can give you that first step up the ladder can't hurt.

              Good luck.

what the reason? no jobs in Ireland for poker and casino dealers. If you want, look at d4 events this year - about 80 dealers (or maybe more)! Maximum 10 of them employed on this moment...

                  Thanks

Thanks for all of the replies, suggestions and help taken on board. Galway and Sligo are local to me at the moment. The reason for the interest is that i'm hopefully going travelling to New Zealand and Canada at the end of the year and would like to get work as a dealer out there, Anyways thanks again for taking time to reply

                      this x 2,

I'd be sure they have proper courses over there that'll give you a cert and all and it will be a lot easier learning the correct way (unlike me who cuts the chips with my thumb) which is brutally hard to change your style once used to it

Email stephen(at)pokerireland.ie if you are interested in doing a dealing course.

We are just building up enough interest in various areas around the country to run courses.

We are going to charge a fee for this, but if you work at the Super 2012 we will refund most of the fee.

                          Cheers,
                          Stephen.

A friend of my from the states (works the WSOP and is DC a PCA) was planning on running a training course in Ireland this month but it fell through.

Looks like she will be over sometime in April and May and will stand on to run a course if there's enough interest.

I'm not sure what the cost involved will be, but the training will be in Dublin.

I believe you have the wrong information here. There was alot more than 10 Irish dealers working this event.... There was also a lot of Irish dealers offered to work this event and turned it down some of them decided to play the event instead.

The lads from D4 wanted to have a lot of dealers from aboard (mainly French) as last year we only had a few dealers from aboard and their was languages issues at alot of tables.

It makes sense when less then 15% of the field is Irish to hire staff from aboard.

maybe i'm wrong about d4, sorry bout that JP. But anyway i know many dealers with huge experience in Ireland who is looking for any job.

Actualy if you want to get training it is best way to get training there, where you wanna work. In canada and NZ i think you will get free training and job after that (like in normal casinos all around the world). All casinos have a lot of small things, which is different with other casinos.
So you can risk and pay here for amateur courses and probably do not get job there... Good luck you anyway and be careful!
