It is funny to look back on all that stuff now, I realise that I never actually believed in any of it at any stage, I remember arguing with my parents before my first confession that I didn't believe telling a stranger your sins could possibly do any good, and then in the box itself doing the usual making up stuff to tell the priest (like 7/8 year olds are actually sinful - GTFO!) and not believing a second of it. I think I was born an atheist, I don't have any faith inside and never did, sometimes I wonder what I'm missing out on, religious ecstasy must be quite enjoyable, believing that God is your salvation etc.

It emerged on Monday that Mr Strauss-Kahn is facing a possible second investigation into claims of sex crimes after a lawyer acting for a French woman said his client was likely to make a complaint over an alleged sexual assault by the International Monetary Fund chief in 2002.
Tristane Banon, a 31-year-old novelist, “ envisages lodging a complaint ” with the police, her lawyer David Koubbi told Agence France Presse on Monday.
Ms Banon alleges the head of the International Monetary Fund attacked her during an interview in an empty apartment in 2002. She was dissuaded from reporting the incident by her mother, a Socialist councillor in the Normandy region, Mr Koubbi said.Turning millions into thousands

Always wondered what the hell an aul one could have to confess, guess the priests felt like it was a waste of time too!

Personally, questions on religion are always a minefield.
the 'lol religion' atheists are as bad if not worse than the holy rollers.
Believe what you want and be happy in your beliefs
Just don't hassle me about them*.
The basic tenents of most organised religions suggest we are all basically
cool to each other. That is good enough for me.
*I was very nearly a priest at one stagePeople say I should be more humble I hope they understand, they don't listen when you mumble

god isnt the problem. Organised religion is. Believe what you want, I only have a problem with it as soon as you start to push that on anyone else.
Had a chugger for Worldvision dumbfounded on my doorstep when I told him there was no way I was giving him money because of the organisations religious policies.http://mobro.co/zuroph

I've mentioned before how my mam has worked doing flowers etc in the local church and how this dragged me into all sorts of associated activities.
I was in choirs, served as an altar boy (did mass on tv twice), went to Rome for World Youth Day, was involved heavily in CYC, learned american sign language for a deaf catholic concert, gave a lecture at Maynooth about youth's role in the church and often did readings, poems and the like from the pulpit. RTE mass was actually quite funny as I went a very weird shade of grey under the lights when we were 'live' and had to rush offstage every few mins for water. I suppose being 11 or 12, in a shirt and tie and under a heavy cassock didnt help.
What drew me to considering being a priest was a very sound priest and an interest in theology.
I've read most of the teachings of all the abrahamic religions and most of the eastern religions too, I did a bit on the South American religions but found them more morbidly interesting than spiritualy.
Funnily enough, the similarities attracted me instead of causing me to shout plagarism and I felt that if the little bits that are different are ignored than we can use all the many things that they have in common to help promote inter denominational discourse.....
Anyway, I'll get back to this later as I gotta run.

People who've read the books can't stay the fuck out of the thread for people who haven't. And then you've got the people in the book reader's thread who've only read the first book, or or maybe up to book 3, and so we have to spoiler pretty much everything. At this point, the whole reader's thread is just spoiler tags with one or two words in between, and the non-readers thread is just a mess of people complaining about spoilers.
