1. WPA2-PSK security on a wireless router.
2. No security, but a whitelist in place meaning only certain mac addresses can access the router.

Is 2 far less secure than 1, or does whitelist access protect as successfully?

Why not just do both? I have my Apple Wireless Router set up that even if you hack my password and get onto it you would never be able to use because i have to manually put the mac address in.

MAC spoofing is easy (apparently).

Whitelisting is irritating (guaranteed).

to be honest you can't really say which is best.
security works in layers.the more layers of it you have,the more secure your system is.
WPA2-PSK is wireless security protocol but if some one finds out your password they your done.

MAC filtering is good but MAC address can be spoofed easily enough.
but if you use both ,then some one would have to crack your password and spoof your MAC address.
this is much harder to do.

WPA2 is an authentication method.meaning once you get Authenticated you will have no more over heads ,it will just be your packets sent and received.(at least that's how most Authentication protocols work).

MAC filtering though checks every packet and if the mac address is not allowed in, then it will drop the packet.
this inspection of packets adds a bit of over head ,however things work really fast in layer 2(where your MAC gets inspected) so you will not really notice this inspection.

essentially if your equipment is in good condition then you should not notice any speed difference when using the two.

When I tracked down Robyn's correct number to call her, I found that I had accidentally transposed the last two digits.

After hanging up with her, I decided to call the 'wrong' number again. When the same guy answered the phone, I yelled 'You're an asshole!' and hung up. I wrote his number down with the word 'asshole' next to it, and put it in my desk drawer..

Every couple of weeks, when I was paying bills or had a really bad day,

In fairness Dave, his post, while marginally hurtful to you performs a valuable function for the rest of us.
