Nicholas Nassim Taleb called asking for his idea back
Tbh with you Michael it's not just an intelligence thing, it's a geography thing, a finance thing and a historic luck/barbarism thing.
A very interesting thought is to ask if we were to give everyone on the planet an average lifestyle or an equal opportunity what would that mean?
Probably an 80% reduction in income for the people in the west and a 90% wealth transfer. So we in the West decide that's unpalatable and do transfers of wealth of no more then 1-2% but with the greater income in the west the gap continues to widen.
Where would you set the bar on wealth transfer? Should this be imposed?

It goes without saying that you can be only be proud of, and take ownership of the latter part of your life success. This is what you yourself have achieved. The former part was going to happen anyway and is largely due to random luck.
Now if you consider the fact that a large part of our current success or potential in life is due to the random luck of being born intelligent (obv posters on this forum by its very nature would have a high average intelligence). We haven't done anything to achieve this high intelligence and yet we will end up getting paid more over our lifetimes due to this happy accident.*
* And obv for every one person born with top 10 percent intelligence there is someone born with bottom 10 percent intelligence that society will probably have to look after.
I'd firmly believe that it is just wrong to take all those earnings due to random luck and use it purely for self-gratification. There's just some bad karma coming to visit if that's your outlook imo. For good karma you really want to be donating some percent of your salary in some purely altrusitic charity giving.
Of course any money you've earned due to just applying yourself and working hard, then that's yours for coke, hookers and cake...‘IF YOU had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you.” Genghis Khan

Or better still lets realise that the world we live in is becoming a post scarcity society where most of the things that are scarce are either not really scarce or artificially kept scarce and now that we can educate anyone who wants to learn we can start making plans to become become the CultureLast edited by Strewelpeter; 29-01-10, 14:05.Turning millions into thousands

I was in summerhill spares breakers yard the other day waiting next in line behind a junkyard dog 'scrap iron ryan' tracksuit wearing currrent day Pete Postlethwaite meets Michael Carruth auld fella who asks for a car part. The chap goes away to have a look before coming back with the bad news.
Breaker: None sorry
Junkyard dog: None? (He answered after a 10 second wait with an incredulous look on his face)
Breaker: No none sorry
Junkyard dog: Not even one? (He answered after another 10 second wait with an incredulous look on his face)
Breaker: None sorry
Junkyard dog: None at all?. (He answered after yet another 10 second wait with an incredulous look on his face)
Its like as if the more he stares and asks again the more it could be a different answer this time!.

The flats/towers coming down, along with the closing of the Penthouse has had a massive impact on the number of junkies, alco's and drug dealers because there's nowhere to hang out and deal from anymore. It's rare these days you hear Ballymun on the news in a bad light. There's a ton of other places on the north and southside that are bigger shitholes than Ballymun.
Gang steals diamonds worth €1m
ÉANNA Ó CAOLLAÍ
A British businessman is recovering in hospital following the theft of diamonds worth an estimated €1 million from his room in a north Dublin hotel this morning.
The 64-year-old man was robbed by a gang of three armed and masked men who forced their way into his room at the Travelodge hotel in Ballymun at about 12.15am.
A Garda spokesman said it is believed the robbers were armed with a hammer and a firearm.
The man, who is a diamond salesman, was assaulted before the thieves made their getaway. Gardaí said the men stole a suitcase containing a "substantial quantity of jewellery", understood to be worth €1 million.
The businessman followed the thieves out onto Shangan Road, Ballymun, before contacting gardaí.
He was taken to the Mater hospital where he is currently being treated for his injuries.
Gardaí in Ballymun are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information about the gang to contact them.
Sorry but ballymun is a shithole. I have lived here for my life as well. And although there are no heroin marchs anymore there are still plenty of junkies everywhere. This place has some good people dont get me wrong but is still a kip. I agree though there are worse places out there now in ireland.
They are also making the same mistakes and worse ones with this "regeneration" going on. Instead of stacking people up they are cramming them side by side. Also no job in the area (apart from Ikea) recently. And no green spaces for kids to play football or anything is just stupid. When I was a kid that's all I did. Maybe one of the major reasons I stayed outa trouble cause I had something to do.

Rant written by QPR fan on message board...
"I take more pleasure in seeing Chelsea lose than I do in seeing QPR win
at the moment.
I sat through so many matches when we were absolute dog**** under the
likes of Ray Harford and with people like Paul Bruce, Matthew Brazier
and Mark Perry in the squad and I never felt like this.
The club isn't ours anymore but moreso than that - football is just
properly gash these days.
I mean really gash.
football generally.
I hate nearly everything about it these days....
I hate the Prem and the myth that it is exciting this year. Man City
breaking into the top four isn't exciting. They spent loads of money.
It's no more exciting that Nameless **** getting to number 1 in the
charts after winning the X-Factor.
I hate the myth of Arsene's kids. Buying some French kid when he's 17,
playing him in the League Cup and then selling him when he's 20 after
about 3 appearances in the league is NOTHING SPECIAL.
I hate hearing about Liverpool/Man Utd's debt but nothing ever happening
about it. A club needs to go to the wall for the money thing to change
but it doesn't happen. Why the **** are Charlton, Leeds and Southampton
still in business?
I hate Frank Lampard's stupid ****ing face. I hate that Joe Cole's
tongue is never in his mouth, the downsy spacker. I hate John Terry
being England captain when he's CLEARLY AN OAF.
I hate young exciting wingers who have nothing but pace. Tony Scully had
nothing but pace.
I hate Harry ****ing Redknapp. And Jamie Redknapp. And Louise Redknapp..
And the Wii.
I hate Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer.
I hate Garth Crooks.
I hate Garth Brooks a lot for that matter.
I hate Sky Sports.
I hate that when a lower league player beats 10 players and chips the
keeper it doesn't matter but if Rooney scores from more than 20 yards
it's amazing.
I hate that female sports journos are now mandatory.
I hate Mark Lawrenson for not coming out. 'I do like a big man at the
back'. I bet you do.
I hate any advert that portrays football to be about anything other than
pain and disappointment.
I hate Lee Hughes and the fact that he makes a living from the game. I
hate Marlon King and any team that signs him when he gets out. I hate
that it'll probably be us.
I hate Phil Brown.
I hate 'well the ball is a lot lighter now and will cause goalkeepers
real problems this summer' before EVERY ****ING TOURNAMENT!
I hate that Kieron Dyer earned more in the time I took to write this
post than I'll earn this month.
I hate Adrian Durham, Ian Wright and Alan Brazil.
I hate Gazza. Either die or shut up. Stop ****ing lingering.
I hate hearing about Hillsborough more than I hear about Heysel or
Bradford.
I hate Leeds.
I hate Roy Keane.
I hate grown men wearing football shirts of their team whilst shopping
on a saturday when their team is playing at home.
I hate that I don't hate Roy Hodgson.
I hate Jermaine Beckford and any player who has neck tattoos.
I hate songs being inappropriately taken as club anthems and then sung
in a manly way. 'I'm forever blowing bubbles....'. Gaylords.
I hate Danny Dyer and anyone he's ever interviewed.
I hate the book 'Cass' by Cass Pennant. It is honestly the stupidest
thing I've ever read. Chapter 1: Millwall. 'Yeah we took 50 to Millwall.
They had 1000 in their mob but we ran 'em up and down the street'.
Chapter 2: Liverpool. 'Yeah we took 50 to Liverpool. They had 2000 in
their mob but we ran 'em up and down the street'. **** me... Jade
Goody's autobiography is probably better. Even her non-ghost written
one.
I hate that all good youngsters end their careers at Spurs before they
start."
