Full Tilt doubling all guarantees for a week!! nice one.

Full Tilt Poker is doubling the guarantees for its tournaments for a week, from Jan. 24th to Jan. 30th.

Every tournament will be affected, with $30 million in guaranteed prize pools over the duration of the promotion. The guaranteed tournaments for the week will also be changed into new “multi-entry” tournaments. Full Tilt recently added this upgrade to its software, allowing the site to provide tournaments where players may register more than once for the same tournament. Shootout and cashout tournaments will not be contested as multi-entry tournaments, however.

The schedule for the week will remain the same; the only changes are the guaranteed prize pools and the multi-entry functionality.

The most guaranteed money is from noon to 6 p.m. Eastern time — $13 million is guaranteed over the course of the week during that time slot.

The Sunday at the end of the week features the most money, with $2.7 million guaranteed in three tournaments. The $750K guaranteed becomes a $1.5 million guaranteed. The Sunday Brawl will guarantee $800K, while the Sunday Mulligan features a prize pool of at least $400K.

If you can’t afford to play in those tournaments, there are smaller tournaments with nice prize pools. The Daily Dollar will guarantee $20K each day of the week, with the Fifty-Fifty becomes a $100K guarantee.

That's a lot of hassle. I have had some decent games of domination and obliterating people with the chopper gunner but nothing worth uploading. I remember one game on Array playing domination where I went 14-0 and their whole team quit while my chopper was in the air. Then a bunch of multi prestige guys join the enemies like 3 seconds before the match was forfeited. Even funnier was when my team lost the match.

Quick question - what do those with smart phones (particularly with Meteor bill pay) do when abroad on holidays, etc... The roaming charges for data usage seem extremely high and off-putting, it makes me think of leaving the smart phone behind and taking my old Nokia instead.

Get a vodafone pay as you go sim, and use the vodafone live APN for data roaming. In a lot of countries this works, not sure about all. Definitely worked for me in Spain. Using this, you can get data roaming for 99c per day, and even if you do it wrong, it will only cost the amount of credit you bought, so don't buy too much at a time I guess. Handy for checking the web, etc when abroad. Just remember to turn data roaming off before you put your own sim back in though or it will auto sync when turned on and will cost you.

Its very annoying when the host dashboards - Iv never known tilt like it before when a guy did it 3 seconds before the end of a match

I think Lurker does pretty well on them based on the fact that he concentrates on in running betting. I remember him saying before that it is common enough for teams to put a bit of a run together for a few plays that really shouldn't affect the outcome of the game but it drives the market loopy

I presume you're talking about the full-game handicap market.

Generally, the lines are softer when they open. The sharps will bet that line up or down depending which side is +EV, if any. Another factor is whether the game is publicly televised. Publicly televised games draw in a much greater number of unsophisticated sports bettors (i.e. squares/mugs). For games like this, the books usually try to construct a line which will split the money on each side to guarantee their profit. There's simply to much money at risk in these games for the books to take a chance on one-sided action. It's conceivable that the final pre-game line = sharps v squares. Hence, they spend more time on these lines than the non-televised games so there's a theory that these are less efficient.

The ultimate example of an efficient market in gambling is the Superbowl. Unless you've got inside info, everything you consider before placing your bet has been considered by other bettors and is no doubt already factored into the line. Thus, much harder to find positive expected value in the bigger markets.

On the other hand, the more obscure the market the less efficient it is as the sportsbooks don't put as much time into calculating the odds e.g. over/under 5.5 blocks for player x. Then again, the books won't allow you as much action on this bet as they would on the bigger markets due to the risk that they've made an error.

As Bubbleking said, I play around in the in-running markets now and again because there's a ridiculous amount of market overreaction in the early quarters on certain games. Usually by trading on betfair since this has allows an exit strategy. Although I keep an eye on the bookies in-running handicap and totals spreads too. If the markets are efficient then the end result shouldn't be too far off the pre-game handicap/total on average.

I think it's a fascinating subject prob even more so than the financial markets as I'd imagine there's a lot more mugs involved in gambling but judging by the current state of financial markets perhaps that isn't true!

I'm wading my way through a ton of books on this kind of thing at the moment. I think one of them describes a WNBA efficiency-based model so I should be better prepared to answer this type of question in a few months. I've made this way too long already. If you want a good reading list on the subject let me know.

Bear in mind I've just been reading bits and parts of these books. I basically took the advice of a well respected sports handicapper by reading his reviews on Amazon. I can't seem to get the link to his profile to show so stick "elihu feustel daringly" into google and it's the second link. He wrote the first book in the list below which is supposed to be excellent. My copy arrived today.

From reading around, the essentials are:

I ordered another few of the books Feustel recommends on Amazon which I think best suit me. Also, I believe an in-depth knowledge of the sport is necessary in order to get the correct weights and inputs for the math models. So a few coaching/technical books on the sport would no doubt help with this.
