Actually, as a follow on from 5Star:

Thinking of getting a Dell Studio 15.6 laptop with i3 350M chip, 4gb ram, 1gb graphics card. Total cost is about £570.

Two questions that I'd highly appreciate an answer to:

- Is that laptop good enough value? Can't really go over the £600 price point, so that's obviously a bit of a restriction.

- Will that chip + ram combo handle just about anything? Won't be really playing games on it, but will be running some largish data analysis programs - would this be sufficient for doing that? (see that this Intel chip its counted, just about, as a high-end chip on cpubenchmark.net, so guessing it should be okay, but not really sure)

- Yes seems very good.

- Should handle it no problems.

I think some of you have the details of Jim McDaid's action here a little backwards - the Government in 2008 acted to limit the cervical cancer vaccination programme - McDaid was against this and when he acted against the party in abstaining in a Fine Gael vote (which was never going to succeed) on a motion to give the go-ahead to the full programme, he lost the FF party whip. It mightn't have been a big thing, but just abstaining on the vote was giving two fingers to the party's stance on the issue, he showed he had some element of backbone compared to the sheep on both sides of the Dail floor who mindlessly toe the party line no matter what their own thoughts on the matters on hand are.

I still think he should have been made resign in the aftermath of the drunk driving incident, that was a disgrace.

yup, that's the one. i like the idea of the draw though. if you're lucky and get a seat, you just organise a couple of days away and spend one of them going through what looks like the most original culinary experience ever created. There's no real need to go there, but receiving an email saying "you've been invited to attend..." would be a nice little surprise to start with.

I was playing the other night and in about an hour and a half there were a significant number of winning hands that came up on the sidegame which got me thinking about it.

In reality I would say that it's far less than 10% of hands where it happens so you're taking the worst of it, the table I was playing at had 4 other players during the time I was there and they were gung ho on it and couldn't understand why I wasn't playing. Going so far as to point it out each time I would have won on the sidegame (probably 6/7 times) but it's clear that it's an opportunity to take money from you.

Still can't bring myself to play roulette either, I'm not sure I'm really cut out for going to casinos

Used up all my luck for 2010 getting a seat in the draw this year (first time applicant) - sent a one line email saying 'traveling from Ireland specifically for this - any day/time will do'.

36 courses of pure art (not inc. chocolate and three bottles of wine) over 5 hours.

Nothing short of a breathtaking experience.

One outer hit by baby......

PARIS - A 15-month-old baby girl survived a fall from a seventh-floor apartment in Paris almost unscathed after bouncing off a cafe awning and into the arms of a passer-by, police said on Tuesday.

The infant had been playing unsupervised with her four-year-old sister on Monday when she somehow fell out of the window, a spokesman for local city police said.

A young man saw the baby starting to fall and alerted his father, who raced to get into position, arms outstretched, to catch her after she hit the awning, the daily Le Parisien reported.

“He must have played rugby for years to have developed reflexes like that,” a bystander who saw the incident told the paper.

Police said the girl appeared to have no serious injuries and was under observation in a nearby hospital.

The owner of the cafe, located at the foot of the block of flats in the northeast of Paris, said it was a stroke of luck he had decided to leave the awning open that afternoon.

“I usually close it to stop it catching fire as people tend to throw their cigarette butts onto it,” he told the television station i-tele.

The police spokesman said the circumstances behind the accident were unclear. “The parents were absent, and it’s a bit difficult questioning the two girls, given their age.”
