That PLO game is one of the silliest things I have ever watched. In the early stages, I just thought it was some kind of setup for TV with pretend huge stakes as the pots and game seemed so ridiculous but clearly, that wasn't the case when you look at Matt's face doing his bollox in last nights play. It's a weird TV cash game because this isn't elite poker playing at the highest level. It is just a bunch of complete sickos playing incredibly high who clearly love gambling.
Towards the end, the 8k straddle was constantly on. Matt at the very end was left just playing heads up with Leon at silly blinds with straddles of 16/32k. He asked to flip for his remaining $500K stack in the last couple of hands. I think Matt ended up down around $4m total.
The rumours suggest he had a huge number in crypto before it blew up which would make sense I suppose. Himself and Sam share a joke at the table that BTC run over the last few days probably made him break even overall which lends a bit credence to that story. The game is so soft though that he might be a big winner in it overall and just had a very rough few nights for all I know. He did run ridiculously bad.
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

1. Formal models (Hofstede, which some of you will be familiar with because of his individualism vs collectivism measurement of societal values. And some other formal cultural models)
2. Cultural antecedents (having similar language, religion, being geographically close, should lead to development of similar cultures)
3. Observed cultural similarities: Here is my problem one. I want to capture observed mutual cultural appreciation of things. An obvious one, that has been previously used in one paper is Eurovision voting patterns: appreciation of music type is quite cultural, plus speaks to soft links between countries. I wonder what else there might be? I can get data on movie exports between countries, but it just measures dollar volume of trade and have doubts as to whether its actually a good measure. Anyone have any random thoughts as to how you might go about measuring 'those two countries are quite similar culturally based on ...'?
What about sport, you have groups of rugby-playing countries, baseball countries, ice hockey countries etc.
Food. Something unusual like horsemeat, popular in such randomly different countries as France, Kazakhstan and China.

socialism - with a small 's' - the belief that everyone deserves a fair chance and sometimes social protection is why we've nearly wiped out absolute poverty and raised the world's life expectancy by a few decades since the end of WWII."We are not Europeans. You're confusing vote-buying with actual ideology."We are not Europeans. Those people on the continent are freaks."

Man, I'd hate to have that Calvinist mindset, even if it meant more stability.
Criteria:- Inclusiveness\Openness
- Democratic
- Progressive
- Educated
- Cultural heritage
- Food
Based on that, I'll say Ireland is damn near the top of the pile. Possibly the greatest small country in the world."We are not Europeans. Those people on the continent are freaks."

One of the best restaurants in the world is In Denmark true, but there's no Danish cuisine, or Danish restaurants. Same goes for all those you've mentioned.
Mexican, Italian, Spanish, Argentinian, French, and then the myriad other non catholic, Greek, Chinese, Lebanese, Japanese etc..
Why are the proddys no good at food?I hold silver in tit for tat, and I love you for that

I will just keep typing places and hope you haven't been there.
Loving that Lazare, the devout anti-Catholic, is being sucked into hyping up Catholicism. If only in the food sense. Must have been all those communion wafers chowed down upon as an altar boy."We are not Europeans. Those people on the continent are freaks."

I see from wiki there is a branch of Calvinism called Hyper-Calvinism. Evokes quite interesting images.
They (Americans) have a distinctly different approach to work and achievement than us slothful Euro-weenies. Mind you, so do the Asians."We are not Europeans. Those people on the continent are freaks."

Most modern cuisines have their roots in poverty. Peasant food developed and adopted. This is true of Italian, Mexican, Spanish and Chinese cuisine.
Maybe the lack of protestant cuisine is linked to their financial maturity, and their competence at running their societies. They don't have cuisines because they don't have peasants.
Hot take.I hold silver in tit for tat, and I love you for that

I suspect that Australians you mention this to need to take a moment's break to silently groan inwardly.
Let us pause for a moment to survey the full panopoly of her official title:
Elizabeth II, in full Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, officially Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of her other realms and territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith"We are not Europeans. Those people on the continent are freaks."

The Nordics were full of peasantry until quite recently (look how many of them had to immigrate to the US just to survive). Same for the Krauts.
Try again."We are not Europeans. Those people on the continent are freaks."

Maybe it's climate then, although that leaves France as an anomaly given none of it's neighbours followed suit.
It's quite interesting actually, a head scratcher. There's some reason why Protestant countries aren't up there when it comes to cuisine, what is it?I hold silver in tit for tat, and I love you for that

Amber Rudd resigns.
Lots of potentially interesting ways this could go now. Rudd was a Remainer but most of the obvious replacements seem to be Brexiteers.
Theresa May could try a full scale reshuffle of the Offices of State and move on both Boris and Philip Hammond. JRM could be in line for a Junior Ministry.
But May herself might not survive this as ultimately Rudd was just continuing with Mays policy.

The SJW post is an example of the former. His pivoting away from any substantive argument to having a pop off Harry Whelehan in a recent discussion I entered was an example of the latter (of sorts). This is in no way a pop at Jack personally by the way. But if you’re looking for logical and honest engagement from that source you are in for disappointment and, to be fair, he never really holds himself out as anything else.
That’s why it can be so frustrating trying to engage with him. You may come to it seeking to engage with a topic on one level whereas Jack has never shown an interest in that. And, I accept I’m guilty of this also, anyone who seeks such a level of engagement is probably fooling themselves. You are technically correct...the best kind of correct

Christianity is the largest group (other than no religion) - abut that's mostly Catholics IIRC.
The Queen being the head of the church and also the Head of state of Australia are two unrelated titles. At one point, the current Queen, was the head of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc. They weren't defaulted to the Protestantism during those times.
Officially, the constitution of Australian, prevents the the government (and by extension the Queen), from inflicting a state religion.
As for the food, there's some great food in Australia. But a lot of it down to immigrant cultures. Lebanese, Italian, greeks and of course all the Asians. The Thai food in Sydney was better than Thailand in my experience. "Modern Australian" is definitely a cuisine type, but I'm not sure if I'd consider it a cuisine internationally if that makes sense. There's always Pavalova, still arguing that one with the Kiwi's.
