Edit: Obviously this isn't a question for google
I don't know how they find their targets. As you said it's hardly a matter of adding every person they cross in a certain age profile.
I would also imagine the construction of a profile must quite a long process especially if you're to fool someone who is clearly somewhat intelligent.

Key word being 'attempting', makes it pretty easy to frame legislation such that the victim doesn't actually have to exist.

More about the mens rea and intended actus rea rather than actually outcome I'm guessing.

The issue isn't whether you'd be happy with it, its whether that it makes someone deserving of a number of years in jail and eternal banishment from society.
Plus the main effect is to criminalise normal sexual activity between young people.
As with all these things, if most other normal countries say its okay and Ireland is an outlier its probably that Ireland is doing something wrong.
Kids experiment, I understand that, but when the other person is a good bit older you have to ask questions imo.

I also think youre exaggerating saying everywhere else is 14/15. UK is definitely 16, and I'd be willing to bet it's the top answer.

The above arguement only works if the law specifies a weight.

Malta 18 16 with parental consent, specifically for "a person who is subject to paternal authority or to tutorship". (However if this is unattainable, the court can provide the consent.)
So they can get married at 16( With permission), the following year they can celebrate their marriage with a drink and then finally when they are married 2 years they can have a ride! hahaLast edited by MrsFlushdraw; 20-11-17, 13:21.

14 = 15 countries
15 = 12 countries
16 = 20 countries
17 = 2 countries
18 = 3 countries
16 is the top answer by the above

Sure let teens or teens within x years, but can't see any reason to change the age of consent for older adults.

Originally posted by Hitchhiker's Guide To... View Post17 of our 28 eu friend countries say 14/15 year olds do have the capacity to consent. So clearly this isn't a widely held opinion.
I really don't - and I must emphasise this! - am not arguing in favour of more 14 year olds getting it on. I'm just saying the idea that someone is automatically a person who needs to go to jail for a lot of years and be chased around by gangs of 'concerned' residents if they sleep with someone under 17 is not an automatically justified rule. It's a very particular and unusual Irish perspective.
The age of consent in Germany is 14, as long as a person over the age of 21 does not exploit a 14- to 15-year-old person's lack of capacity for sexual self-determination, in which case a conviction of an individual over the age of 21 requires a complaint from the younger individual; being over 21 and engaging in sexual relations with a minor of that age does not constitute an offense by itself. Otherwise the age of consent is 16,Originally posted by AustriaHowever, Section 207b[11] of the penal code contains an exception to the general age of consent: if one of the partners is younger than 16 years of age and "not sufficiently mature to understand the significance of the act", then the act is punishable.The age of consent in Bulgaria is 14, as specified by Articles 149 and 151 (1). However Article 151 (2) has a provision for those who are over 14 and do "not understand the characteristics or the importance of the act."Section 223, part 1, reads: "Any person who has sexual intercourse with any child under 18, who is said person's adopted child, stepchild or foster child, or who is entrusted to said person for education or upbringing, will be liable to imprisonment for any term not exceeding four years." This applies, e.g., to teachers. Further, part 2 of § 223 establishes that the same punishment is applicable to any person found to have grossly exploited their age- and experience based superiority over a person under the age of 18 to seduce said minor into intercourse.
Although the age of consent is stipulated at 14 in Portugal, the legality of sexual acts with a minor between 14 and 16 is open to legal interpretation since the law states that it is illegal to perform a sexual act with an adolescent between 14 and 16 years old "by taking advantage of their inexperience".

He’ll give it a while then do a big spread in the sindo about his mental health and eventually get back on air
There absolutely has to be bigger fish to fall in the Irish media though I’d imagine

Best statement in all this was Europe is not always right. Sometimes we are right, France doesn’t even technically have an age of consent for consensual sex according to a recent court case and politicians there are arguing for 13.
