Philomena Begley has always been a fond friend of Shane's, she has been very I'll recently so I think some of the comments here are a little unfair.
Shane himself is in far better nick than he was say 5 years ago, he is in a wheelchair because he broke his pelvis, he has been walking little by little over the last month. Shane is in great form with himself and is happier than he has been for some time, considering the lifestyle that Shane lived for 30 plus years and for someone whos obituary was being written 30 years ago I think he is doing ok for a man turning 62 in less than two weeks time.

Having both involved significantly isn't the issue but I think it could have been delivered in a more flattering manner.

Listened to a piece with Mark Steel about an argument he had with a prominent member of the Green party
She decided to run in a seat that labour only won by about 300+ votes last time, he said to her that
she was handing the seat to the Tories and labour would implement more Green policy than the Tories
Her reply was that Labour couldn't win the seat on their own
She was all about defeating the Tories
When he pointed out that her vote wouldn't be added to the labour vote to defeat the Tories she stopped replying to him
Tories won by about 1000
She got 1500 votes
Animals anyway...Last edited by Guest; 14-12-19, 12:01.

You'll never grow to be in a position to win unless you continually contest these elections.
Electoral system is terrible obviously.

I don't see how Shane outliving the death predictions makes him remarkable. His body of work does. 62 isn't old and despite his apparent hip injury . He acts elderly . It's sad. He's a legend but don't be using his avoidance of the grim reaper as anything to admire . Plenty of poor feckers in the same boat. He is the product of his lifestyle .

Pretty quick to make systematic changes in the organisation after some unsavoury reports, overall likeable guy I think:

Just spent an hour organising my wine cupboard pre-Xmas. Put a lot of good bottles to the top of the pile, then a pile of crappy bottles as presents for people who don't know wine.
Wonderful time well spent.
Also found a box of jars and cans of French deliciousness. Coq au vin de Cahors for dinner so!"We are not Europeans. Those people on the continent are freaks."

Anyone see David Keenan live? Just discovered his music today. Nice to see he hasn't lost his Dundalk twang

On Shane McGowan couple of neighbours and another bloke I know supported Shane McGowan last night. They play with him regularly actually, must have a chat with them over the holidays. Same bloke used to call over to my home place in his teens to play folk and ballads with my oul lad after helping fix up his old BSA Bantam bike.

Apparently their chairman (the cheating Wray) has been told he is not welcome at any other Premiership ground. In a sport like rugby, that's even more of an indictment than the points and monetary fine.
Must be awful being a Munster fan these last 7/8 years. They keep putting everything into Europe but consistently just don't quite have the smarts to win the big games."We are not Europeans. Those people on the continent are freaks."

Hilarious how lopsided the group draws can be. Northampton will probably get out of Leinster's group, despite being not very good."We are not Europeans. Those people on the continent are freaks."

Ok after all the chat in here I forced myself to watch the late late show today. Pat Shortt, wtf. Turned that off. Best lol of the night was when soup run blonde lady said she couldn't phantom why something happened instead of fathom without a hint that she might be wrong. Shane McGowan, sad to see him dribbling and hardly able to move. Still witty tho as he had a few good one liners. Philomena Begley, meh. Probably afraid to fuck up and not used to the autocue, would give her the benefit of the doubt that she was reading a line ahead and she fucked up. Being able to fast forward should be the only way to watch telly. What a shit show.
Also watched Graham Norton today and the contrast in the shows is unreal. That's my boring Saturday summed up.

Obviously I thought that yeah, Connacht are unlikely to get anything out of this but feck it, it's not over yet. And what a final 5 minutes! Ah, the joy of supporting ConnachtLast edited by ionapaul; 14-12-19, 20:17.
