Actually, while on the subject of fires... we have a crappy open gas fire, which we never use as the heat output is terrible. Also not a fan of the open fireplace with the little dude toddling around, even though we never use it is a hazard.

Does anyone have a closed gas fire or gas stove in a fireplace, running off the home gas connection? Am not sure what the difference between the two would be, or am I confusing myself - just want a gas fire that is not open to the room but is as efficient as possible. Does anyone have something like this and if so, how does it compare to an open fire in your experience?

On the home heating topic, as mentioned before, we bought a new build approx a year ago so I'm currently looking at changing energy provider to see if there is any better deal. Generally the sign up offer cannot be matched by your current provider.

The house is air to water so electricity is all we need though we do have a pot belly stove which has been used 2 or 3 times. I have been pricing moving but the difference is minuscule given that July/Aug electricity(& heating) was 70e.

Not quite the blast of heat you want as you come through the door in winter though.

On a somewhat related topic, the other house I previously mentioned is back up for sale. Auctioneer rang me to say he had an offer but no viewing had taken place.
A guy rang from US to say he had seen the pictures and he was interested. He said he'd offer 10% below asking to get the ball rolling which is only 2% lower than highest offer last time.

I’ve had a fun 2 weeks, been training for a 12km trek ECO run In Paris that was a mudbath and fun , the previous week I fell on some wet leaves that gave way underneath my feet and I toppled like Stevie G in his pomp looking for a peno. Got skabby knees and elbows but no damage done . ON the night out in Paris before the run we went to the Iconic Jazz bar and a fabulously terribly named Irish bar – O’Jasons. Whilst under the influence of bad drink and even worse music I did the Rooney goal celebration slide on my knees. The Skabby knee ,deskabbed and was now flowing blood. I stood up winching , ouch, that hurt a bit and looked down at my bright trousers menstruating at the knee. Cue some concerned folk from the bar coming over to see what happened. GTFO, tis only a flesh wound and I dabbed some Peroni (I know shit beer) on it. Since then it’s gone a wee bit yellowish but no pain. I’m wondering if I’ve got Peroni Knee or an infection. The fact that there is zero pain would mean nothing to worry about right? I don’t want to fork out 60 quid for a doc to sccop the lids and give me an antibiotic for a skabby Peroni knee. I’ve had yellow skabs before so I’'ll be grand.

On the way home from the pub at 2am last night I passed by the hemp clad protestors at Merrion Square. I happened upon a high level strategy meeting and joined the circle. It was comedy.

They were talking a lot about their feelings and empathy how they didn't feel as valuable as the "arrestables". They did jazz hands any time anyone wanted to make a point. I just had to subtly record a bit of it for my own posterity. They noticed and challenged me, I went to leave, they jostled me a bit and took my photo.

I was accused of being a government agent, "ya rat" I just left them to it, kinda regret not standing my ground and saying I just thought it was comical. Such delusion to think they've undercover agents in their midst.

It's all very odd. Seems to me to be more indicative of the symptoms of the climate crisis rather than anything that offers a realistic solution.
I saw a couple of people being interviewed last night and one girl,who seemed to be some sort of a spokesperson, was convinced that all life on the planet was going extinct as a result of this crisis which was quite disturbing. Then there was another guy described being crippled by anxiety and his impotence to do anything about the crisis until he found ER as an outlet.

Have no doubt that radical and urgent action is required or there will be a dramatic collapse of economic and political structures over the coming decades. It is practical actionable plans that are needed now. We can't blame these people for expressing their frustration at the absence of any real action when it is clear that no one is willing to actually act as required and the entire political world in in thrall to fossil fuels and the delusion of a capitalist system built on the central lie of eternal growth when what is actually built on is the failure to accurately price energy.

I think EBS offered us same deal but our tracker balance was so low that the cost of putting the rest of the new mortgage on their shitty SVR more than outweighed the benefits. Hence we left it to die.

No redress for me sadly but the issue never came up with bank about losing the tracker. Tracker still over 100k so seems worthwhile but TBH I know fuck all about these things

Semi-brag: Got a letter in the post this morning that I was affected by the morg interest rate overcharge and was a decent cheque accompanying it but the first I even heard about it was this morning. Pretty pissed off about the level of 'compensation' offered as part of the settlement which essentially only amounts to the difference in interest rates they were charging. Was out of work for a period during this time and took a loan from family member to help pay morg then so pretty pissed off that they were essentially stealing from me and they just send a letter and cheque and that's the end of it.
If anyone else was involved would appreciate if could send a pm as to how they dealt with it, particularly if wanted to dispute or further address the compensation issue.

Also, recently been approved for a morg by the same bank and the letter seems to be dated around the same time of the approval so I don't know if I would ever have been contacted if that wasn't going on at same time. In summary, banks are cunts...
