@ Zuut, do you give your kids any treats at all? Not getting at you if you don't. Just wondering as I Have seen more obesity stemming from denying the odd treat to giving them now and then.

Once they become old enough to buy them self they go for the forbidden fruit. No matter what you drum into them as kids. School and other people change their views.

I try to restrict the amount of rubbish the kids eat. The older 2 have now finished their easter treats but the youngest still has loads left. I keep a stocked fruit bowl as I love fruit with a passion. I nag them when they say they are starving to get something from the bowl but met with resistance often.

      I blame immigrants
That's exactly what the article states though, pre 1980 people were eating eggs, meat etc but were told to replace them with carbs and obesity went through the roof.

Can hand people a packet of food and they have no idea what calories are in it from reading it, or what a lot of the ingredients mean.

Never buy those after reading the ingredients, pasta sauce or pizza sauce is so easy to make and a couple hundred cals less.

That's just true in the US, eating healthily here is really cheap, more effort cooking yeah.

Would be really surprised if they are eating less calories!
Nothing wrong with a high carb diet at all, it's just what you are eating.

My diet is not great. Whhen I was 17 i managed clean eating with no slips or cheats for 9 nine weeks. I am kind of small so no need for weight loss. I did feel good though. Right now its not good though.

I do like salads and veg and stuff. But I like white bread. And too much bad stuff. I don't like big portions though.

We all pay way too much attention to what others eat and not enough to what we eat though ourselves.

We are all crazy deranged dieticians it's funny.

Actually meant to ask this before Tar - the misses is putting a big push into us eating vegie at least once a week. A lot of what seems to becoming out is tasteless mush so what are your top 3 recipies - both of us are pretty decent around the kitchen in general but I dont eat nuts and she doesn't eat mushrooms which cuts out a lot of options.

Food and exercise are probably not to blame for the weight gain as we know from Ballerina's and gymnasts smoking is the key to weight loss.

Banning smoking in public areas means that there is not a constant cloud of smoke for everyone to get a nice second hand hit off. Look at the trends - everyone was super thin in the 80's and then as smoking got a worse rep people started to get fatter finally culminating in outright bans in public places and the current obesity epidemic.

Might see if I can get Ted Cruz to endorse this message.

The risotto is a nice dish. The one I had contained chick peas, sweet corn, onion and peppers. Was really lovely.

You could even roast a pepper and serve the risotto in it

Do you fly a lot? We picked up the maximum capacity hand luggage bags. Can hold a weeks worth. Range between £10-20

They are brilliant. I also bought a small hand luggage case and it holds shit

Chickpea pulses beans lentils quinoa. I eat chickpeas I haven't had quinoa in ages though it takes a long time to cook. Veggie stir fry is my fav for when I actually feel like cooking. You can do nice salads in summer. Or veg soups.

Only if your being selfish tho. Smoking makes you super thin and look cool but the real benefit is of course the second hand smoke. This helps everyone around you stay thin, even kids who are to young to buy their own smokes.

I have never heard of second hand cocaine.

In the late 90's and early 2000 the big thing where I was for dieting was ephedrine tablets.

Little like me a little now. When I ate well though I ate intutively when I wanted sweet I had fruit or natural yoghurt (which tasted sweet after a bit) and when i wanted savory I had veg or nuts etc. I am like a bird mostly. I pick.

Why not nuts, allergic or taste? You can make such nice sauces from nuts and obviusly wouldnt taste like nuts. If it's an allergy thing dismiss.

Here is a random sampling of veggie food I made a few years back that i will paste as its hard to type with one arm to help you.

I often make massaman curry which is very simple http://i.imgur.com/aXQ931O.jpg
Just massaman paste bought in the chinese or indian shops, a tin of coconut milk and assorted veg. Baby corns, mushrooms, chickpeas, tofu, whatever. You basically mix the paste with the milk and fry the veg lightly, mixing it together and having it with noodles.

A note on tofu, you can get a kg of it from the Asian market for E2.xx. Now mostly tofu tastes like crap so the trick is to empty the water, freeze the tofu and defrost it again, then fry it in cubes, It tastes waaaay better.

Veggie korma, used tofu instead of paneer, both are great.

Mmm delicious yellow rice. Don't forget to pick out the cloves and cardamom pods as you eat! Serve with Recipe #37989 (it won't be low fat any more i

AMtar paneer is also easy to make: http://i.imgur.com/Gp5x4.jpg

caramelised onion, sundried tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and goat's cheese in a filo case with lentils. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/pictu...ictureid=12491

                                                          couscous bake http://i.imgur.com/s17JJ.jpg
fry onions and garlic and tin chopped tomatoes together, mix with cooked cous cous, add salt and herbs, fresh spinach, top with goats cheese and bake in the oven, add some toasted pine nuts on top.

roast butternut squash, red lentil and spinach curry http://i.imgur.com/PDuPi.jpg
Roast the squash first, after cutting it in half. The cook it all together on the pan. Very simple and delicious.

Another thing that is great with butternut squash is soup, again roast the squash to make it taste better, you can put honey or sugar on it while it is roasting http://i.imgur.com/EA0OE.jpg

This is a salad with artichoke hearts, peppers and so on with roasted portabello mushrooms, used spinach, coconut milk, fortified nutritional yeast(can use cheese instead) etc. Here is the recipe

Simple things like this are great, rocket, hummous, goats cheese and sweet potato fries http://i.imgur.com/ry5vCEr.jpg

I layered filo pastry in cupcake tins, added the lasagne vegetarian mince/veg/sauce (fried that up first) stuffs, more filo, more lasagne, then cheese on top. You're meant to use "wonton" pastry stuff or lasagne sheets. Filo was nice

Mushroom, spinach, onion, garlic, white wine and quorn vol-au-vents.
Spinach, blueberry and cranberry wensleydale cheese, nuts, olives, cherry tomatoes, babycorn salad, with greek hummous.
                                                          Homemade coleslaw.

                                                          tomato curry and coconut rice
Not being a vegetarian, I have a rather indelicate lack of faith in meatless main courses; I worry all too readily about whether it's going to be filling enough. I suppose this is habit, which in turn is largely cultural conditioning but, beyond that even, my fear is to do with balance: I need to feel sure that everything on the table provides a true marriage of tastes and textures; I can't abide the one-note meal. Here I'm happy: the acid brightness of the tomatoes is met with the sweetness of peas and the rich creaminess of the coconut rice, which is itself pricked with the sharpness of lime, while its carrara-whiteness is punctuated by the gritty blackness of the seeds (not there just to satisfy culinary egomania). For US cup measures, use the toggle at the top of the ingredients list.

Using dried yeasts instead of allowing dough to ferment and naturally cultivate yeast. Obviously takes longer but it's how it was always done, seemingly we've removed a vitally important part of the process.
