What's a good car for maybe €20k? The only non-noob thing I know is to not buy new. So would probably be a two year old. Are you getting into okay two year old Beemer territory at that price?
And what colour head gasket do you want?

No more kids planned? That you already have some means the sexy 2-doors are out.
I recommend the Skoda Superb. The perfect combination of executive saloon and "I'm a dad so there".

All cars are shit apart from BMW, Mercedes and Audi. Go as far back as you have to. You'd probably get a 2011 520d for that money in France.
I've settled on buying a 7 year old 7-series every 2 years now.

I'm fucking sick of trying to buy a car.
Currently have it narrowed down to a passat 1.6 diesel somewhere between 09 and 11 and no more than 10K must have cruise control and have the speedo denominated in Kmph
It seems that anything that meets both those requirements is being sold by arrogant pricks who think the smell of their farts permeating the seats makes the car worth a 15% premium over the going rate.
Might give up on the speedo and import one from the UK next weekTurning millions into thousands

Insurance settled for my bike: 50% depreciation of a new bike + full price of parts I put in last month, they essentially buy it off you for salvage and I think I can buy it back of them for like €50. Odd system but I can understand it, parts can be compromised.
Seeing as it is bike to work it's not a bad deal.

Fuck sake 15 minutes and counting on hold to get a new PIN for my credit card so I can rent a car in France because they won't take VISA debit.

LOL sample size
Avoid the 2 litre BMW diesel engines - timing chains on them are ticking timebombs. Audi and VW are so solid these days though.
I may have been driving longer that you are alive young man! I have driven many many types of cars and have opinions on which ones I like and which ones I dislike through experience driving them. Which is easier than saying I have the sense to avoid
