Staying in work, shutting the fuck up, and not drawing attention to the fact that they were already overpaid by asking for an enormous wage increase would have been a sweet deal.
Taking the new contract that was offered to them would have been an even sweeter deal.
Now we're at the point where the deal is either "get the fuck back to work" or "if you really don't like it, there's no job here for you".Last edited by Emmet; 13-04-16, 10:34.

It is mind boggling to me that someone could complain about being asked to improve productivity in line with requested pay increases. If anything, you should have to demonstrate improved productivity before looking for the pay rise.
I think the LUAS drivers have been fucked over a good bit by the reporting of the proposal they rejected tbf, and I'm pretty queasy about the idea of getting the sack for going on strike, but these guys are just through the looking glass with the amount of pay they think they deserve for a job a computer could do.

I didn't say there was something wrong with agreeing to productivity rises on order to achieve a pay rise.
I think there is something extremely fucking wrong with the media allowing Transdev to essentially straw man in public about '18%' pay rises though. There is no conversation going on about the ACTUAL terms offered and rejected. That is squarely SIPTUs fault mind - they have been shown up as utterly incapable of modern PR and media management.
And I think there's a level of vitriol in play here that is more furious and widespread than the likes of Quinn, Drumm et al received and that should give people pause.Last edited by LuckyLloyd; 13-04-16, 12:01."Worldly wisdom teaches that it is better for reputation to fail conventionally than to succeed unconventionally." - John Maynard Keynes

Pretty sure you can not claim back US taxes but I'm no expert!

Diversification might be his downfall, but apart from that its about as reasonable as most investment models.
But my very rough mental numbers add to maybe 500k invested over 8 years @ 5k a month.
The average growth is what, 10%. Over 8 years, that's maybe $750k, even gets more aggressive over time, lets say he hits 40 with $1m on the books.
What then?
That's not enough to get through the next 50 years, especially not if you're in a bracket with 5k spare each month. But maybe he lives in his mams attic.

If you feel you're not getting paid enough for what you do and ask for more, getting asked to do more for the extra money does somewhat negate the payrise

If you end up with 18% more in your pay packet next year than you got this year that is an 18% pay rise... Just because some part of the increase was pre ordained on existing agreements doesn't change the basic facts.Turning millions into thousands

I've had folks tell me the reason for the initial rejection was because transdev were pulling up the ladder for staff entering past the agreement date meaning anyone coming in later would be on a reduced rate.
Existing members rejecting this is clever imo. But if that is the case SIPTU have failed massively not getting that acrossPeople say I should be more humble I hope they understand, they don't listen when you mumble

We had really good teachers who urged us to go to college, but the class sizes in my school were big. There was only really one teacher who could take on higher level maths, and in some subjects students were encouraged to drop down to ordinary level.

What's mad is people think they can pick companies and say they are a great buy , imagine how many people know much more about a company than you , people with inside knowledge etc , buying random companies at market value is as good a way as any . Every so often I'll look at how exposed I am to sectors and rebalance but I'll still pick a random company in a sector and waste no more than seconds in my decision.

Having completed the test drive they check out my car for trade in purposes and salesman tells me he will call me that afternoon with a price etc.
Tuesday 12th - At 5pm and having heard nothing I decided to call but couldn't get past the receptionist. She tells me I will get a call asap. That evening I notice online that they have dropped the price of the car by €2,000 online.
Wednesday 13th - still nothing.

Originally posted by Hitchhiker's Guide To... View PostMy dad was telling me last night he has diabetes. Quite a common enough thing now, but seems like an absolute bollix of a thing to have, especially seeing as its largely avoidable (although he seems to have the genetic diabetes Type 1 rather than the lifestyle one, but they're not sure yet). Has to inject himself like a junkie in the stomach or leg with something each day, and then you have that constant vigilance.
Its still in the early stages of treating as when he went into the doctor puzzling about why he had, as a thin man, lost a good few kilo of weight, he had what I think is an astronomical blood sugar level of 25. Seemingly the sugar eats the fat cells which is why he had lost all the weight. Has it down to 12 now and its meant to be 6. I was telling him to take it easy until they get everything under control but he's off doing a million things, which seems the height of stupidity.
You could tell he'd been googling it, as he was quietly mentioning in a slightly odd voice that he had to go in for extra tests in case the diabetes was a symptom of something more serious. I googled it myself and the first hit is 'you might have 'your-fcked' levels of pancreatic cancer'. Of course it then goes on to say that this is in a miniscule number of cases, but I bet he just read the main headline and is now walking around thinking he's a dead man walking.
Ugh, waiting on those tests not knowing if they'll call you in and go 'I'm sorry but...'. Suppose there's nothing to do but wait really and keep the fingers crossed.
I wanted to tell him not to listen to my sister no matter what she says as she has a rather unique ability to start with even the most positive news and 30 minutes later have you convinced that its the worse thing ever.
Its getting to that age for both the parents (and maybe the average age of parents of everyone on here), where you could be receiving that phonecall from them that their previous indestructability which you took for granted as a kid has now developed a kink in the armour.‘IF YOU had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you.” Genghis Khan
