Wrt to the twee cafe nonsense we were on about this morn I'm not usually exposed to the full horrors as I live in the middle of nowhere but a prime example opened in a place not a million miles away recently.
it's a " gastro pub" apparently (is it the 90's again?). One of the "conversation starters" is a salad that "might give you super powers!".
Or you can try an open "sand witch"
After "the main,of course " you can choose from number of "happy endings", one of which is "ice cream. Served with ice cream and ice cream"
Obligatory wacky chalkboard outside along with a sign warning you to watch out for sharks and bears should serve as fair warning to those with their eyes open.
No idea if the foods good and the beer could be nice but I'll never know as I don't think I could survive exposure to such levels of aggressively nice tweeness

Taxi is about $70 IIRC. If you're arriving at a busy time of day then bus and subway will get you downtown almost as quick.

So it seems a bunch of prick committee men have conspired to force Billy Walsh out as High Performance Boxing coach. He's off to coach the U.S. Women's programme. Thankfully the IRFU seem to have developed some sense in the last few years and are keeping Schmidt happy."We are not Europeans. Those people on the continent are freaks."

This whole latest 'IRA hasn't gone away you know' kerfuffle is just depressing on all sides.
Unionists trying to outdo each other in fake shock and outrage.
Gerry Adams who was never in the IRA () seeming to know vast amounts about its inner workings.
The only player who seems to be talking sense is the PSNI chief constable.
Does anyone down south really aspire to adopting these idiot children anymore? (outside of singing the obligatory songs when locked)"We are not Europeans. Those people on the continent are freaks."

So, have anyone watched Fear the Walking Dead?
Found it enjoyable enough but find the family unit quite irritating apart from the step dad to be. Hope it picks up the pace in the 2nd ep, knew the 1st one was always gonna be slow introducing new characters. No beast so fierce but knows some touch of pity, but I know none, therefore am no beast.

Donaldson was sounding reasonably calm on BBC this morning. To be fair to the unionists its one thing to conspire to pretend that they have gone away but when they are out on the streets plying what was always and ever their core business operations without any pretence you can't really expect them to stay in government with them.Turning millions into thousands

It reminds me a quote I once heard about (I think) literary feuds:

Surely even you lads can see that what was actually said by the heads of PSNI / Gardai on the matter has been twisted and contorted beyond all recognition?
If men who were actively involved in the IRA pre GFA are involved in personal acts of criminality they need to be brought to justice. But the PSNI have been clear in saying that they don't believe there was any organisational / command structure element to either murder or indeed that there ever would be from whatever broad IRA structures remain.
The DUP opposed the GFA and have no interest in the peace process or power sharing succeeding. As such, I find their position less deplorable than the UUP and Southern parties trying to scuttle the peace process on the basis of complete bullshit for a few votes. The rhetoric from Labour in particular and the media nonsense led by the usual quarters is shameful actually.
Adam's statement is extremely comprehensive and should be the end of the matter:
I note unsurprisingly that the Independent did not include or report on his statement in today's edition."Worldly wisdom teaches that it is better for reputation to fail conventionally than to succeed unconventionally." - John Maynard Keynes

Sothern politicians with an election coming up? Of course they're going to seize the opportunity to give SF a kicking. SF after all have no compunction about kicking them.
Anyway it'll all settle down in a few weeks. There's way too many people getting handsomely rewarded out of the peace process for it not to. Including the sort of 'community activists' who killed McGuigan last week. All aboard the HMG's gravy train.
Boring amd predicatable on all sides."We are not Europeans. Those people on the continent are freaks."
