I used to Bowl as my main sport for a couple of years aged 11/12.

There's still technique to be learned and there are a lot of people who play several times a week yet don't hit strikes every time. My Dad has been playing in leagues for most of the last 30 years at least, and he's not hitting strikes every time, neither are most of the people in the league. There are some very good players who average over 200, but still most would be in the high 100s despite playing for years.

Played a lot when I was 16-19, qualified for the IO when I was 17 through our pub league (got a medal for being knocked out 3-0 in the first round).
Hadn't thrown (except the odd random game) for 23 years and just got back into it in the last 8 months. Playing in a local (low quality) league. Won a trophy for winning a 16 player knockout darts night in the local boozer a couple of months ago. Season just finished and I was pretty happy with the overall results. We finished 3rd in the league and won the cup.

Italy, Netherlands and England is a bit of a tough group to navigate. Don't look out of their depth here against the English at least. Also seem to be playing positive passing football, shock and horror.

Easy in the same way golf, snooker and darts are easy. Different oil patterns for different competitions meaning the need for different types of balls, shifting feet/changing ball as the oil shifts during the game etc. Obviously getting to a certain stage is easy enough - always picking up your spares in the same way a darts player would always hit his double to win first time etc.

In my league a lot of games will need a 15 dart leg to break throw. 180's aren't rare, 140's, 137's etc are a dime a dozen. It's not about scoring big, it's about finishing which is also shit hot. That would be the standard in every top league in the country.

My cousin is on my team. He went 7 trebles into a 9 darter twice this season.

Bought a few different sets of darts that i paid decent money for, but can't settle on a weight, style or a throw and i have shit consistency. I'm imagine that i'm pretty shit though compared to other amateur players.

My first dart is by far my best dart (probably because it's the one i take most time over), and my 3rd is pretty good, but my 2nd dart would be my worst.

Id rarely hit a 180, but can hit a few 140s but i'm also known to throw the dart out of the board or slip into 12, so that's obviously shocking!

My favourite practice game is a game called 27, where you start on D1 and work your way around the board. You throw 3 darts at the double and if you hit it, you add 2 to your score, if you miss, you take off 2 (On D2 it's 4 added and 4 off etc). Idea is not to go bust, or score as high as possible. You can also play it going for the trebles, but use the same scoring as for doubles. Find it less boring than any other type of practice because you'll always have a high scoring/run of doubles etc to try and beat.

Second dart should follow the first. You probably need to speed up slightly and get into a rhythm. There is a couple of good groups on facebook for buying/selling/trading darts. It is the best and cheapest way to try out different setups.

The best practice is finishing. If you can finish and know your maths/outshots then you will be a good player.

A good game is 121. You give yourself 9 darts to finish 121, when you do you start again from 122 and keep moving up til 170. If you miss you can start again or have reset points for every 5th outshot (Miss on 127, back to 125. Miss on 131, back to 130 etc) or just keep starting again on the outshot you were on. When you start to master that then play with 6 darts. Too many people just throw at T20. Need to learn the combos and move around the board, this game is perfect for it.

Had a few since started back playing, 2 in March, 3 in April, 1 in May so far (2 in matches, the rest in practice games). I was prouder when I got 3 darts in the bull, which I did in practice a couple of months ago.

Our league is soooo far behind that, not throwing first is not really a disadvantage because most of the players are crap. There are about 2 players in the whole league that I would say are really good, and those guys play in another league and just use our league as a practice/laugh night.

I was invited to play in a singles league starting next month by the guy who runs the league, my consistency is crap, throw a ton/tonforty then throw a 26, it's a bit all over the place. Hoping that this invitational league will lift the consistency a bit.
