This should be a welcome announcement by the unions, and I can see the strike being called off while they trash out a few more assurances from the Minister, now that he seems to have become involved.
I reckon the strike won't go ahead now at all.

Pretty awesome conversation heard today between two auld lads in the bookies
Old timer #1 : now I'm not a bit racist but by god do I hate them foreigners, our taxes paying the dole they get in our country.
Old timer #2 : oh I wouldn't be racist either but I agree with you, make them work for their money, every house should have one of them as a servant
Love the clarification that they are not racist though. Ireland must have been an awful place 30 years ago

Was looking it up as was thinking of whether 10.5+ constituencies might vote against gay marriage. When you look at some of those areas you'd really wonder. Kerry North, for example, was reasonably closely divided on whether or not the country should execute people. Is the local farmer ambling into the booth with shite on his wellies really going to ever be thinking 'lets do this for the gays'. And there's a lot of those constituencies. You are technically correct...the best kind of correct

So it would seem logical that Donegal would still be two constituencies for the purpose of vote counting in a referendum during this Dail?

People voting no to be anti Enda/water charges. Though on the other hand, Jedward, Mrs Browne and Bosco are pushing me towards a noGone full 'Glinner' since June 2022.

Will divorce legislation as stands cover same sex marriage or will there need to be amendments to it? Just out of interest but will be pretty funny if down a referendum was needed for gay divorce. Which way would the holy joes vote. Anti divorce but pro gays no longer being married.
I know it's same sex marriage and I would imagine amendments don't require new referendums but would be great just watch the debates

I had a very interesting conversation about the equality referendum with a group of elderly Irish nuns all living for a long time in South Africa. They really didn't have much to say about the subject at hand, I could sense their distaste for the subject but an understanding that the world and civil society in Ireland has passed them by. Because it had been on the RTE news that morning we talked about Mary McAleese's position and they were all delighted that she took on the bishops and without saying anything controversial applauded her decision to stand up for her son ahead of the stated position of the church they share.Turning millions into thousands

I've been pushing the convo the last week or so and now we have some very strongly held views and they're all no voters. The age range is 21-60ish. As said before its a sample size of about 10/12 people but these people have families and communities will vote the same way down here.

I think Kayroo is correct, this will be really close. It really needs a big turnout to carry it over the line, it's encouraging to hear colleges really pushing hard to get people to register, Newstalk are doing a great job too in this regard.
It's an absolute disgrace that we're even voting on such an issue, what right do I have to have a say on somebody else's personal life?
In fifty years time we'll be embarrassed to look back and say this was something that people were voting against.
Opponents to SSM are no different to opponents of inter racial marriage or opponents to women's suffrage imo. They just live in a different time.Last edited by Lazare; 28-04-15, 21:56.I hold silver in tit for tat, and I love you for that

I was leaving out the recycling bin this evening and a bunch of yes campaigners about a dozen were roaming my estate.
One lady was going up to ring the door bell told her the baby was asleep so she handed me a leaflet.
I immediately binned it and told her i dont need constant harassement in the media or from blokes in dresses like that panti bliss tranny to do the right thing.

No voters are a bunch of pussies.
The fact that they literally are afraid to admit they are voting no is a sign in itself.
Homosexuality was not accepted back in the olden times which is a known fact and they are agreeing with those homophobic people from decades ago? Pathetic
I know nothing about the bible and if it is actually stated that no man shall lay with another man, but if it is then I can somewhat accept religious people voting no. I mean they stand for something and they have beliefs. People who are voting no because they don't like gays is just utterly pathetic imho.
That is all.

The same part of the bible forbids sex with your mother in law, so who ever wrote it was casting a pretty wide net. Wouldn't be taking it too seriously
