Its all very simple. The man is lonely since his wife died. Looking to change my current wagon (00 VW Golf, 1.4). Budget around 7.5k. I do 40km a day part town/part motorway but even the motorway stuff is M50 commute style so fairly slow. About once every six weeks go from Dublin to Tralee and back.

Looking for something with low mileage, good reliability, preferably would like a warranty as well.

Have been looking at Focuses but not really blown away.

Any ideas? Used to driving hatchbacks but not against moving to a saloon by any means.

There is a screening of nightcrawler on at 6pm in Cineworld for those who haven't seen it/haven't seen it on the big screen.
I think that movie Collatoral is similar in terms of atmosphere, obviously not a patch on it. Tom cruise sort of works and sort of doesn't at the same time.

Uhm, Irish Water and its (original) funding model are actually being set up in order to stop this rubbish. Connecting charges to usage instead of "Giant Pots of Money" which mean for everything that is undercharged, there must be an equal and opposite over-charge in order to have a balanced book.

Silly numbers example. We previously spent 1bn on Water provision a year, and got 0 for it. As a result, we must fill that hole somewhere, so charge an extortionate amount for Motor Tax. 3bn in Motor Tax, 1bn of which goes on water, 1bn on roads, and 1bn back into the purse

Motor Tax has become totally and grossly disconnected from "funding the roads", and is now basically a "general taxation amount paid for by those with cars".

The Govt takes the general taxation amount, and spend it where it's needed, last year it used a huge portion of that to start the setup of Irish Water in order to try to begin the process of charging people for consumption and end the madess that is "general pot" pays for "non-general" things.

Every penny that the government spends could be said to have come from any of it's incomings. It's a fantastic headline but it's nothing new.

I've got a Focus 08 I'm putting on sale when I get around to it that's within your budget. I'm not blown away by it either, but it's grand and reliable, no issues since I got it, and relatively low mileage.

It should be. But because we have giant holes of expenditure we have to find supplementations elsewhere. Motor Tax is one of these supplements.

Look at the cost of Motor Tax vs other Countries. The goverment has been milking car owners dry for day-to-day expenses. But they have to get the money from somewhere!

As far as I can make out she is only saying she didn't realise that she had possession of a copy of it.

It seems this was written before Mockingbird and was rejected by her publisher who told her they wanted to read about Scout as a child. She did that and then intended to write a third part that bridged the two but never got around to it.

I assume you know about History of Rome but if not get it as it's the best history podcast ever imo.

I like the Talking History podcast from Newstalk. It features 45 minutes weekly about a specific topic, war, person. The host is a historian who teaches at Trinity afaik and they usually have really top notch guests on it. I think the show itself is 2 hours long but the idea of hearing a radio show on radio as opposed to in podcast form seems foreign to me.

I have a bit of a fondness for When Diplomacy fails. It's hosted by an Irish guy from Wicklow. He is nowhere near as good a narrator as Dan Carlin or Mike from HoR but he has a niche of focusing the diplomacy of the war (as the title suggests) much more than the battles itself. What I really like is that he covered more obscure wars that I either never heard of or knew little about.

I have heard about 10 episodes of ww2 podcast but the narrator isn't great. He needs to breathe every now and again. I'll probably pick it up again at some point.

It's to do with the hub and spoke set up of air travel, it'll usually be cheaper to go through a major hub than directly to it.

Wild guessing on my part.
1) 50% of the Auckland to Dubai customers will be Dubaivians and the airline sees these a cash cow and can set a high price. Whereas the percentage of Dubai people will be much lower when Dubai is used as a through route.

2) Aukland to Dubai is only served by a small amount of airlines whilst Aukland to Dublin has a multitude of options and stop-off points, hence downward pressure on prices.

Nothing fancy but have always found seats decent run arounds for a cheap price. They are golf engines and chasis with cheap Spanish body work so a massivly reduced price tag.
Had a Leon for years with no issues and used to drive it all over the uk. Changed for a diesel Ibiza a few years back but have since sold it as the misses needs a car for work and I can walk.
No problems with either and servicing and parts were cheap enough relative when needed

Flight pricing is based on a myriad of complex algorithms. Looking at one or two individual data points and trying to rationalise them will throw up all kinds of oddities.
