It's worth noting too that every time I log into Facebook there's an ad for some religious group polluting my feed. Looks like the campaign isn't going to be short of resources.

Then I remembered that in 2 weeks time it will be the two year anniversary of the very very long odds on favorites, Crossmaglen Rangers, suffering a crushing defeat in the AIB Club Semi Finals at the hands of St Brigids. At the time Crossmaglen were the powerhouse of club football and had won the previous two All Irelands. Stragely (or not perhaps) they havent been mapped on a football field ever since! My how they have deteriorated in the intervening time period.
Edit - the guard didn't play football for them btw or wasn't from that parish.
Proper Punter Recommendations: One unit on DIT to win the Sigerson Cup @ 5/1 (Bet365), two units on St. Brigid’s to Qualify for the final @ 9/4 (Paddy Power), three units on Ballymun to beat Dr. Crokes @ 2/1 (Ladbrokes)

If you are on the fence re the referendum ask yourself do you really want to read years of teeth grindingly awful "lm ashamed to be Irish" articles from mullalley etc al. No? Then vote yes and it will be a lot easier to go back ignoring her.

It has been widely reported that the Guards believe they know who all of the gang are, three of whom bolted to the states the week after the murder.
The RTE report mentions the omerta employed by the IRA in South Armagh and how they haven't gone away, you know. And there are a couple of other non sequitur mentions of Crossmaglen.
Its all part of a process of winding up the pressure on the SinnFein / IRA / GAA nexus.

What do you think of the points made by Sinn Fein's Pearse Doherty on Water Charges this morning...
Has the party line changed to agreeing with higher water charges than the government is proposing or is he just an utterly cynical populist who will say anything at all that will draw more drool from the droolers?Turning millions into thousands

They asked me to be the godfather, I pointed out it should be someone religious
They both laughed and said there was a reason they picked me (and my sister in-law) for the job
It was done in Ireland over the christmas and couldn't make the ceremony, so my mother had to step in. Queue much sniggering in the church every-time she was told to pass on my jebus duties as godfather

Im playing devils advocate here.
By definition republic are secular, so the main/larger state schools should not be allowed choose students based on religion (specialist needs of minor religions may muddy that a bit but shouldn't)

That said, it's very possible to be in favour of a socialist policy of charging for water and think that the governemtns current implementation has been an absolute disaster. Is that how you crash a wedding? yes it is, Bionic Barry, yes it is.

On the republic bit, I do love telling English pricks who try to label me (the people doing the labeling are always pricks) as working class etc that I am not working class
What do you do; what does your dad do? (never mother btw! and why allow yourself be labeled based on what your dad does to pay the bills anyway)
Na; not working class!
Big red face...
NA!
Yes you are!
NA!
I'm from a republic, so no inherent class structure, if you must label me, use an economic label, I'm working poor, but then again, so are you!

Failing that, an auditor or regulator. Wolf Pack Inc and myself are willing to take one either or both of those roles respectively.

Was having lunch with my dad and my brother and the topic of the referendum came up. My Dad (mid sixties) goes sure it will be a landslide yes vote. I told him about the bet and the previous history of referendum and that it would be a strong yes in Dublin more than likely but tight overall. He then goes on to tell me how 2 of his sisters will definitely vote no. Both very well educated and I asked him why and he said because God says its wrong. I think the bet is very safe. His rival it seems, had broken his dreams,By stealing the girl of his fancy. Her name was Magill, and she called herself Lil,But everyone knew her as Nancy.

Since we have been talking about religion, the Catholic Church, and the negative effects etc., if anyone ever wondered about Buddhism this is an accessible and enjoyable introductory audio series of talks on it given a few decades ago by a very clever, educated, guy who founded the Triratna Buddhist Order, which is a Western facing one:
I'm not doing this as proselytising, since I don't consider myself a Buddhist. But it speaks to the question of religion and spirituality itself, particularly in the modern day West where supernatural ideas about God etc. are considered to be ridiculous by so many.

Apart from the mandatory religious 15 mins it was non preachy, so not as bad as I expected all told.

My friend did one and they charged €200 per couple and last year they had 2000 couples from the region. The people teaching the course were volunteers.

Thanks for reminding me about it anyway.
