The reason I ask is because due to recent gout related issues I gave up the booze for a few weeks and I found that my concentration levels in work were a lot better and my general mood was better. This led to better conversations with missus and more patience with my daughter.
Not that I feel that there are problems but I did notice and feel a difference.
Gout is gone (for now) so back to boozing, but I am think of cutting it down/out altogether.

Perhaps it's just me, but every time I install the new greatest xbmc add on for sport streaming, including that one that DP linked to the other day, most of the channels seem to be offline. Seems to be extremely unreliable (not to mention much lower quality) than using your TV. Am I doing something wrong?

After a bit of chat about the upcoming Charlie programme the conversation moved onto a nice level of Enda bashing and eventually the referendum was raised. Wasn't really surprised that nobody from the 55-75 spoke in favour ( about half spoke strongly against with others nodding heads).
I was a bit surprised at the lack of support in the lower age bracket with just 4 speaking strongly in favour. Maybe it was the setting of a party and people didn't want to be going against the herd in public but it was very relaxed and there was no animosity towards anyone who supported a yes.
I was saddened to see my sister in law ( the youngest there ) speak so strongly against it. She has a 12 year old who is obviously gay but she doesn't seem to see it. Two of the people in favour later added that they hadn't registered to vote since they last moved house.
Obviously not a diverse specimen for a poll but pretty informative on how one section of the electorate will vote.

Defo a +EV Life decision although I do find that my social circle has tailed off but that was bound to happen for the reasons you detailed above. I find myself doing a lot more activities like hill walking and gigs in the big smoke now, before it would have all just been "a couple of pints" in the local.

I think marriage should be between a man and a woman but for legal reasons property wills etc its nice to have the security.
Not so long ago homosexuality was a crime except if you were a priest.
20 years ago the divorce referendum was defeated.
I d sooner see a relaxing of the licensing laws nad as things go gay marriage is not really that important.Last edited by Guest; 07-01-15, 11:21.

In fairness I won't do it but if the no side need something to swing the balance they should use her.

There is decades of evidence from other countries that same sex couples raise children just as well as opposite sex couples in any case.
De stigmatising same sex couples would intuitively reduce the bullying aspect surely?

We can also consider the results of the previous studies and find either one of these two things.
1 - There was no 'additional bullying' suffered, and children developed just as those of opposite sex couples.or2 - In spite of 'additional bullying, children of same sex parents develop, achieve, grow just as well as others, perhaps showing marginal benefits of same sex parenting (if we could remove the additional bullying)?Last edited by Emmet; 07-01-15, 12:06.

My wife's cousin is getting married to her GF in Kerry next August. Not sure of the legal angle, but it's a civil ceremony. What is the referendum for? is SSM not legal in Ireland or is it a church thing?
Her GF is from NZ so she has had awful trouble over the last few years trying to stay in Ireland. Extended student visa's, statements from family and friends to prove a relationship, not allowed to work etc.
Hopefully the marriage status can end all of that hassle.

Got confused earlier and posted this on the wrong thread:
'Ireland has an unhealthy relationship with booze blah fucking blah'
I know plenty of Irishmen who'll go out and swallow down their 12 pints of Guinness and three whiskeys; have great craic; and get home without having got into a fight or a bed with a stranger inappropriately before getting about their business the next day. The people I know who push it too far with booze have underlying issues. Maybe in Ireland the culture allows people to express those things with drink on whereas they keep it locked in otherwise. But every nation has cunts. Every nation has unreliable, unhappy and uncaring people and I'm sure they find ways for the rest of the world to see it absent of taking a sup."Worldly wisdom teaches that it is better for reputation to fail conventionally than to succeed unconventionally." - John Maynard Keynes
