Downloaded the Stephen Hawking biopic "The theory of Everything". Bit disappointed, you learn little to nothing about him as an extraordinary scientists but it focuses mainly on his relationship with his first wife, not that I mind romantic dramas when done right like say Blue Valentine. While it's nice it was fairly inoffensive and lacked any real depth.

Ah fecks sake. There's a long way to go so. Yeah, def need to read a few more Theroux. Just hard to get the excellence of The Great Railway Bazaar out of your head, and realise they can't all be that good. Also reading the Iron Rooster one where he just spent a few hundred pages shouting 'why are there so many fcking people in China, leave me alone' was a bit of a letdown.

Dark Star Safari is excellent. Probably my favourite one of all is The Patagonian Express (similar premise to the Great Railway Bazaar except he hops on a train in Boston and ends up in, duh, Patagonia).

Some of his fiction is excellent too. My Secret History and My Other Life are not even thinly veiled autobiographies so actually read like his travel books. The hero in Milroy the Magician reminds me somewhat of V for Vendetta. Hotel Honolulu is extremely funny.

Quite surprised he hasn't got the Nobel yet.

Lagos is a special kind of crazy. There are Primary Elections in progress, its some sort of complicated process, that I'm too tired to google tonight.
Every hotel in town is full of people and last night and this morning this one was crammed with politicos and their extraordinary looking entourages. Tonight its a ghost town when we got back a while ago there was no one around we didn't see a single other guest. Apparently thy are all gone out to a big stadium where someone will get a nomination and then they will all come back at about 2 or 3 AM when the party will kick off and then go on for days.

I have been enthralled by it I must say. At the moment I think he probably did it but I would not be able to convict on the evidence so far.

The two stand out things for me are the girl that said he was in the library, and the call to the girl that was only a friend of his. One good for him, one bad.

To be honest if I was on the jury I would have convicted based purely on the deeply annoying voice of his defense lawyer.

I don't think it's a short turn slump, it's been a one way train for the last six months and sometimes it feels like you can't give away the stuff. The world is massively oversupplied at the moment and that's with Iran under sanction, Libya crippled, and Iraq far from full production. Saudis aren't gonna cut and Russia can't afford to. The outlook for global growth and demand looks very weak for the next few years.

It's going to be interesting to see how producers handle it. I haven't really looked deeply into the production costs of various producers or how well hedged into the future they are but they've got to be feeling pain right now. We're not going to be seeing $100 oil again any time soon imo.

COT stands for Commitment of Traders (overview) which is a weekly report. In this case the graph represents the net long/short position held by large traders, commercial hedgers etc over time.
