There has been talk recently of regulation in the live poker casino in Ireland. I welcome this if implemented correctly. Its not so much what they will do but hopefully weed out the dodgey and unscrupulous licence holders. Live poker in Ireland bar a few high profile tournaments is dead. I will give reasons again but here are a few questions.
1. Do you trust your dealer/casino? people give out about over raking all the time, should it not be common practice for a dealer to state the pot and put aside and announce the rake at the end of a hand . simple because it should be done but i have seen dealers who cannot add nevermind divide by 20 or go over the cap regularly. Maybe the players are the best eyes but some dont care or are too drunk to notice.
2. Drunks? Do you want them in the premises. Yes they are easy money but everything has a downside. Tank/ Annoying chat which sometimes turns abusive in general no game flow. should they be allowed in given more drink? Again i dont think regulation would solve this same as a nightclub i guess. I think casinos tend to turn blind eye to regular assholes who usually are the nits but make up the numbers. And fat cunt bouncers are not man enough to throw them out for being so.
3. Do you give a shit?
4. I have spoken to foreign players who come here and do enjoy a drink and a game of cards but think Ireland casinos are the worst seedy places they been.
So its not really about lack of money in the poker economy more like players dont like visiting these shitholes to play a hand every 5 minutes where regular players just pass money between themselves.
I dont think regulation will do much to line your pockets but it may make the operators who do run a good business more appealing. At the end of the day live cash poker in a irish casino which are low stakes are for recreational players despite the perception of some who think they wouldnt be out of place in a 100k buy in event
. cause they make some juice off drunks each weekend. I say ban alcohol from all casinos. ( i drink too btw)

ps....yes online players should be classified as self employed and taxed accordingly. subject to a generous limit.
