    Hold'Em Manager 2.0

    Hello everyone,
I am a student finishing my degree and am hoping to invest some of my time and knowledge of the game of poker into an online site and was wondering what software to use.
I do not have any "stats" or "graphs" as of yet as my only successful experience was on a site called zynga poker where I had a good last few weeks.

I was talking to a few of the online "grindars" on the local casino and they were telling me about software you can use while playing online that basically played the game for you. They told me that this software is like an autopilot system in a plane and that all you have to do is land it and count the dollers.
Is holdem manager 2 the only option or are their free software as my start up bankmoney is only $100 and this would use it all.

Please help I want to become the Irish Iselder.

Lol at them thinking HM2 plays the game for you. It is so far from the truth but i think many people who haven't used it think it works like this. You need to know how to interpret the stats that you get from it. It won't magically turn you into a winning player. You need to have good fundamentals before you go near it in my opinion.

If they are online grinders I doubt they mentioned "It basically plays the game for you". This holdem manager misconception that people that do not play online poker have is comical enough. It is a a fantastic resource though and either it or poker tracker are essential once you start properly multitabling imo! There is no quick fix if you are looking to make a lot of money playing online poker. Talent and good work ethic give you a good start though!

I may be surrendering to hud soon, but i hate how it clogs up the tables gets in the way of chipstacks etc. What are the bare essential stats?

Are these softwares hugely beneficial? Currently only play a small amount of tables max being 4/5. At stakes in between the 1 to 30 buck range on stars and don't really know what they offer?

I just cracked up when someone said is that Padraig Parkinson. I rarely get a belly laugh that hard these days if I'm not in Amsterdam.

'Iselder'...this has to be a level.

              @AKQJT

I haven't used the HUD for a while because I'm using a different setup with none on and can say it's fucking great to have such less screen clutter, also I believe it's made me think better and differently about evaluating a player.

That said I'll be going back to it once I've got two new fuck off dual monitors that will presumably allow me to mtable with HUD stats not clogging.

Point being, going commando for a while can't be too bad but overall I think you can't really give up the necessity when ur multi tabling

Even if you were to use 2 stats, VPIP and PFR would still tell you a huge amount. If not paying attention to every table, there's a huge difference when a 45/31 and a 6/5 open UTG. Same when a guy playing 45/1 opens in MP. You might have seen him play every 2nd hand, but he's only raising the KK+

Stick in the number of hands beside beside those 2, to give a better idea. Obviously a sample of 2k hands will tell a lot more than a sample of 100.

If you can handle another 3 stats, then go with cbet, 3bet and fold to 3bet. All those will tell you so much about a players tendencies. I'd changed my HUD a lot over the last 12 months until one i'm happy with. It's a lot bigger than i had planned, but it's all usual info that i can process straight away without having to click into the stats so it's essential when playing up to 18 tables.

Same as above. It pays for itself in 3 tournaments max. If you're playing a 20 freezeout and you are facing a 3bet shove and the next pay jump is $100, then knowing if that player has a 3bet of 17% compared to a 3bet of 2% will help you make the correct decision, and that 1 decision has paid for Holdem Manager.

It's not only the HUD that's important, it's being able to review your hands and your session. Going over your biggest winning/losing hands and seeing how you played, reviewing how you played 77-1010 in 3bet pots, checking out how succesfull you were when you decide to c/r the flop with a big draw, seeing how many times you went broke with JJ on a raggy board etc. Just being able to filter and check for any situation in poker and seeing how you can improve will help your game. If you were playing cash, then this is even more valuable because a lot of these decisions would be when 100bb+ deep so it's a situation you will come across time and time again.

It only clutters the screen if you don't position it correctly. It also takes up the same table space whether you're on a laptop or a 30" monitor because it's all proportional. You don't to use it exclusively and you're still allowed ignore it and evaluate a player yourself. I've 5k+ MTT hands on some regs that i just know how they play now, so wouldn't take too much notice of the HUD because i know they'll be adjusting their play to that particular table especially if there's a fish involved.

There's still a ton of top players that don't use any sort of HUD. Jude Ainsworth and Jason Thompkins being 2. I've also recently did 2 Skype/sweat sessions with guys that crush online, one playing 12 tables and neither use HUD but are very aware of their image and familair with a lot of the regs.

Great post Tony but just to correct Jude is all about the Hud. He's the reason I got one!

Marc one thing I do is make my stats translucent for early stages and when then I've just few tables left I make the tables bigger and the background of the stats darker.

I'm also on a mac and use poker tracker3 which seems to be the lesser of the two, appearance wise. Most good HEM huds look pretty slick to read in comparison.

In terms of stats I'm still tweaking but at the minute have.

                  Hands,M
                  VPIP,PRF,AttToSteal
                  3betPre,4BetPre,FoldTo3Bet
                  CbetFlop,FoldToCbet,CbetTurn,FoldToTurnCbet

One Q for pokertracker3 users. What is the best font size and font for readability?

                  Any other appearance/stats tips welcome.

Ah cheers Tom. Didn't realise Jude used HUD. I remember someone telling me he never used it, but that was a while ago so they probably wrong!

I don't used PT, and i have a busy HUD. Been tweaking it over the last while but i've settled on this. I've got used to what all the stats are and the more i tweak now, the more confused i'll get so i'm sticking with it til i realise i'm wasting space or need to add something. I'm sticking with HEM1 aswel rather than switch to 2 because i've tried the trial twice and never got into it. Not sure if this is any use to you

Been talking to people about HUD recently too, as Tony knows I use HM1 and was going to upgrade and get PT4 simply because so many people have issues with HM2 and I think Pt4 has more extra tools. Just like Tom was gonna get a MAC but got a windows machine instead, so didn't bother.
Definitely would advise getting PT4 over HM2 and don't buy TN2 either

HM2 is all good now. There hasn't been major problems in a few months as far as I'm aware. The teething problems are over.

I would never use HUD for a MTT. Good for multi-tabling cash if that's your thing.
