Are you looking for strategy advice or just general common knowledge stuff when playing live like "Always protect you hand" etc?

          Keep a tidy chip stack
Stack your chips in their denominations & keep the bigger value chips to the front easily visable for other players to see

Be careful not to string bet
When betting or re-raising always place the chips out in one movement, you always see on tv poker games people sticking out different stacks/ chips not always at one but here the string bet rule is pretty well everywhere so either announce what your doing or put it out in one go

          Never go south
When playing a cash game you might be tempted to take your buy-in off the table and play with just the profit, don't. Pretty seriously bad form & not sure but I beleive it is againt most casino rules

          Always protect your hand
Always protect your hand from being accidently mucked by the dealer or from being grabbed from another player, if you in a big pot and the dealer mucks it by mistake you have no recourse so be carefull put some chips on them as a card protector or pick up an actual one

          Pay attention to the action
more and more people are using ipods/pads what ever and getting lost in what ever they are doing and not paying attention to the action, for instance the player raises but your not paying attention and think he just called the big blind and you say "call" well now you have to call his raise (in most situations) that you may not have wanted to

          try not to over celebrate
you take down a big hand or get lucky etc its really annoyin people jumping around, shouting etc etc be a gracious winner imo

Banned in pretty much every casino I can think of. And if it isn't banned it's pretty much the worst breach in etiquette you can perform, bar actually punching someone in the face.

There was actually a great link put on the BBV with about 100 different poker books a couple of weeks ago. Some of them for beginners, others far more advanced, but a great variety which would be useful for everyone, I'll see if I can root that out now...

Edit : FD has the link up in his post, great link.

get into the habit of turning over your cards at showdown if your bet has been called. There's nothing worse than two players stalling waiting for the other player to show first.

If you continue to play this will form part of your life. You'll rarely go a session without saying this to yourself/out-loud.

Don't be afraid to post hh's in the strategy sections here and ask for advice on how you played a hand or two.

This could be even more confusing to someone, who obviously, is a total beginner. In every single posting in these sections you will receive contrasting advise from different players who's opinions would be wildly respected in Irish poker!

                            1 - Flushdraw's advise (post 2)

2 - Do all "actions" at the same pace... fold, call, raise, reraise etc etc

3 - Really observe the style of play from each player at your new table. Are they aggressive/passive/rocks/call stations ..... "reads" on the players at your table for the first few levels can give you an edge later on.

4 - Always, ALWAYS do a deal with me!!

You have to pay to learn. Try to get experience cheaply, like reading good books (advised above), or playing very low stakes.
You need to know where you are in a hand, that is, you should be forming an opinion of what hand the other players still in the hand hold. If you know you are beaten there is no shame in folding. But if the pot in the middle is big, and it doesn't cost much to call, then call if you can improve to a winning hand. (learn about: pot odds; implied odds).

Don't play at bigger limits to try to recover losses. And stay away from roulette.
